My Tattoos

             List of Tattoos
If you've seen the rest of BrainMeta.com, you might be wondering what would compel someone like me to get a bunch of tattoos! No, I wasn't drunk at the time, nor was I peer pressured, but rather I got them simply because I wanted to. Tattoos are symbols with meaning, and the idea of making some meaningful symbols physically a part of me was very appealing at the time I got them, and is what motivated me to get them in the first place. The meaning contained in my tattoos are a part of me, a part of my being,...they reflect extraordinary experiences as well as extreme parts of my temperament and personality, and as such, it became important to me to have them represented on me physically, by getting them as tattoos.
All of my tattoos mean something very important to me, which I've tried to describe below. I had the foresight at the time when I got my tattoos to have them put on areas of my body that would be normally covered up with clothing, so that I could look conventional and semi-normal when I wanted to, and also so as to avoid being branded with the typical 'tattooed guy' stereotype, since in reality, I don't fit any stereotype.
Serpent
This was my first tattoo, which I got while attending the Society for Neuroscience Conference in New Orleans on the night of 11-08-00. The serpent represents my style of attack: subtle, unpredictable, unstoppable, deadly. Also important to me is the biblical significance (in Genesis) of the snake, as tempter and in providing godlike vision and knowledge to man. Click HERE for more.
Ankh
This tattoo was gotten on the afternoon of 3-31-01 and represents life force, eternal life, sanctified sexuality, and sexual energy (click HERE for more).
Eye of Horus
This tattoo was gotten on the afternoon of 3-31-01 and represents my perception and mental vision (click HERE for more).
Crescent Moon with Star
This tattoo was gotten on the afternoon of 3-31-01. The crescent moon with star is a general cosmic symbol for me. We're literally made from star-stuff, from elements that were synthesized in supernovae. The stars are our birthplace and our destiny. The eight-pointed star (in place of the typical five-pointed star) is a Magick chaostar that represents the Primordial Chaos and the Chaos which is immanent in all things (click HERE for more).
Kanji for "Unrivaled, Invincible"
This tattoo was gotten on the afternoon of 3-31-01 and says "Unrivaled, Invincible" in Kanji (Japanese writing), though for me, the meaning is mainly as "Unrivaled". This kanji tattoo is an expression of my healthy self-confidence (overconfidence to some) and faith I have in myself. This kanji tattoo is my favorite, though my serpent tattoo runs a close second. Cosmic Consciousness
This tattoo was gotten on the afternoon of 3-31-01. It's from a diagram in Robert Anton Wilson's book "Prometheus Rising" (this book covers the 8-circuit model of Timothy Leary, click HERE for a description of the model ) and represents "Cosmic Consciousness", which is the highest state of consciousness we can enter into. It's a state of consciousness that extends beyond one's immediate body. It represents awareness of the 'Self'. Click HERE for more. More generally, this tattoo represents the various different modes of consciousness I've experienced and can enter into. Read about Expansion of Consciousness for more.
Future Tattoos?
No...but who knows, after some time I may change my mind and get a tribal sun tattoo.
