Alone I stand behind closed doors,
I watch my mommy fall,
I hear her scream and daddy shout “Woman it’s all your fault�
I watch her head bounce off the ground,
And her eyes fill up with tears,
Her body’s turning black and blue,
Her spirit’s getting weak,
His hits are getting harder,
But now he looks at me,
My eyes grow wide with fright,
My knees begin to tremble,
I hear his footsteps coming closer,
Two more steps, now one,
I try to hide but it doesn’t work,
He knows just where to look,
Under the bed, now try the closet,
His black combat boots hit the floor,
“Come out, come out wherever you are!
Come out and take your punishment�
I feel the sting as his hand hits my face,
My world begins to go black,
I open my eyes and flinch for the hit,
But nothing comes my way,
There are people all around my bed,
They look at me with sadness,
One says in a soft low voice,
“Son, you’re lucky to be alive�
As they’re walking through the door I slowly start to cry,
A man comes in and looks at me huddled in my sheets,
He asks me in a gentle voice “Can I tell you a story?�
I heard him speak of God above, and all about the Father’s love,
He came to earth to set us free; He came to earth to rescue me,
I bow my head with teary eyes,
And ask God for forgiveness,
For all the things that I’ve done wrong,
For everything I didn’t know,
The man stood up and looked my way,
It seemed as if he had more to say,
With one foot out the door,
He turned and said goodbye,
I watched him walk away,
And remembered what he said,
I don’t know who that man was,
But there is one thing I know,
Has he not stopped and talk tome,
I wouldn’t be here today,
He knew I needed help and he knew just what to do,
He told me all about God’s love,
God’s love is WITHOUT EXCUSE.
