How can I set up an avatar and adjust links posting capabilities?
I will highly appreciate if somebody gives an advice.

hi there.... once you've posted a certain number of times your link posting abilities will be activated! As for an avatar.... it has a certain size and file type requirement! Hope that helps and welcome

Thank you for info but while attempting to upload an avatar I encountered with the following report:

"You are not allowed to upload that type of file as an avatar or personal photo"

The size and the rest of the requirements were provided.

Should I contact the Forum administrator over this issue?

Just drag someone else's avatar to your desktop, look at the file type and size and then use similar values.

I followed your advice, it does not work either.

Btw many buttons (all buttons of the ruler including size and fonts section) does not work: e.g. for image, color etc. I tried different browsers and changed computer.

It looks like the forum not in good technical maintenance. Besides there are font shifting in various parts.

But the forum's content is very precious in spite of those overwhelming technical shortcomings. Hard to correct?

I don't have any problems here at all and no-one else has mentioned the types of issues you describe. We do see problems now and again like any forum, but not at the moment.

(I'm using an iMac and iPad to access the forum at the moment. Any other moderators using PCs see any problems?)

Pardon me but when something does not work it does not work. I looked over some posts here which report the same set of problems. Presumably the options (accesses) for users are regulated, I'll write to administrator over this issue. Anyway thank you for your feedback. I tried Fire fox, Explorer, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera over various computers (5 computers), probably you are not well aware about that kind of technical problems. I think maybe you are trying to upload an avatar from your computer. As far as I know, this has not worked for ages for reasons that admin know. You will need to upload your avatar file (in one of the formats indicated) to a file hosting facility (e.g. imageshack, which is free) and then use its URL in the appropriate place on your control panel. This works and you will see proof from the changed avatar I now have. See the file below for my previous avatar and details of where you make changes under "My Controls". If you have any more issues then contact Shawn (admin), who owns the forum. Unfortunately, I'm not able to advise above the level of rocket science .... or is that Rick?

Thank you for your efforts I tried “imageshack” it worked, but please note if the image link is longer the system does not upload a file for an avatar, in particularly from Gmail storage. I think visiting users should be separately get informed about those non-traditional options.

But the ruler's buttons do not work yet. I shall write to Admin, hope he does not favor stone-age forum services.

I see your avatar now and what a lovely smile you have! Please bear in mind that most topics are for over 18's only and you should shield your eyes from any Neanderthal language and images depicting copulating plants and animals that are shown periodically to attract weirdos and make Shawn think that the forum is well populated, else he might close it down. Don't tell him that I said that. Have fun.

Welcome. I had the same issue regarding uploading avatar... for months!!! Shawn couldn't help either. Then I bought a new computer, and boom! Avatar loading capabilities worked to perfection with my new computer. It turns out it was my laptop. I don't know how or why. Try your office computer...

Concerning the technical issues I think that you are terribly wrong. I tried several computers with different systems it does not help. In my view the forum has very serious maintaining issues. It is very sad that such valuable texts are in such low kept frames.

It looks like some sort of spy-log comes from forum protocols affecting browsers. That definitely should be checked up.

Uhmm, Enki used to have similar complaints. I wonder what happened to him?

So it is very bad that it is so and what is more bad is that up to now you all do not know why it is so.

We know why. Software bugs are hard to find and it's hard to test for all browsers. They don't pay the maintenance guy enough to do a thorough job. This site accepts donations.

Esp. if the bugs are made for certain purposes by certain specialists, e.g. for psychological testing of the patience of the forum users. Pardon me, but those arguments are not valid.
