So we won't be going to Mars, not in my lifetime anyway. And not back to the moon either, not for decades. Buzz Lightyear fantasies are dashed. Don't believe the spin - the dream is over.

Solar sails are impractical. They would have to be so thin as to be unworkable, except for perhaps an advanced civilization that already had cities in space.
The boldness we need is not to be had yet. After we achieve world peace, perhaps mankind will cast about for a worthy constructive goal such as space colonization.

Yes, indeed. I am "hopeful" that after Obama solves the economic and war problems, he will then pursue a bold long term vision for space. Until then, all we have is hope.

http://rjwagner49.com/Science/Physics/LHC/...0911.1884v1.pdf.... you and the other wagner are both paranoid crack smokers if you really believe something apocalyptic is about to arise out of experiments conducted by the LHC at CERN.

http://rjwagner49.com/Science/Physics/LHC/...0911.1884v1.pdf:
Our overall conclusion is therefore that the tidal-charged black holes are a viable model of micro-black holes which might be produced at the LHC. The model predicts that such black holes cannot grow to catastrophic size, but might live long enough to escape the detectors and result in significant amounts of missing energy.
So we're OK then!

Only if his theoretical prediction that the growth rate is sufficiently slow can be validated. Many predictions like that one have been shown to be way wrong before. His mathematics might have been influenced by wishful thinking, or there is an unknown effect that cannot yet be taken into account because our knowledge of physics is insufficient.
