Hey Hey

GodConsciousness
today its oxycontin.

I really hope the FDA puts a serious crackdown on some of these pain medications. In one of my philosophy classes I teach we talk about drug usage in society and overdose issues. Invariably when I ask the class if they know of any one who has overdosed and died, several students raise their hands and talk about friends, family members, or other close connections that overdosed on oxycontin. I don't know how the hell there is so much of it on the streets when its so lethal. The FDA needs to pull oxycontin completely out of the market until further testing can be done. Way too many people have already died from it and it will be interesting to see the final toxicology report on Michael Jackson to see if oxycontin may have played a role in his death.

Considering the issue is not the toxicity or safety of these FDA approved medications so much than people intentional overdosing on it I do not believe that as sufficient reasoning to deprive a beneficial drug from doctors and patients.

Requiring in-hospital administration, a psychological assessment for risk of abuse, regular blood testing of the prescribe drug to insure the patient is not taking more than prescribed, and/or more limited supplies of the drug would be practical measures to reduce such abuses.

Pulling off a highly valuable drug off the market without an alternative may leave many patients without an effective means of treatment for their condition if they are not responsive to other pain killers which I do not see it benefiting doctors or their patients.

What do you think of the assertion that heroin is safer and more effective than oxycontin?
GodConsciousness
there seem to be enough sufficiently efficacious painkillers on the market to warrant pulling oxycontin off the market without depriving patients of necessary medication. Unfortunately the potential for abuse is a real possibility for any painkiller but oxycontin seems especially lethal and problematic for society.

Wasn't that the title of an ad placed in the London Gazette, circa 1430--prompting the purchase of Joan of Arc for 10,000 pounds?

How about cocaine toothache drops they had during the same period

look how strange it is that germany banned Red Bull cola because it contains the same trace amounts of cocaine in it that Coca-Cola does but they didnt touch Coca-Cola. The amount of cocaine left in is far below the threshold of effects, just like the amount of caffeine left in decaffeinated coffee is below that which would break threshold.

They should Leave the cocaine In the coca leaves for the making of these drinks, the would be better and have a better effect. The only reason why caffeine is allowed and cocaine isnt is because caffeine has a lot more side effects than cocaine, cocaine is more mild than caffeine and very selective for certain dopamine pathways

Yes, thats right, cocaine is more mild than caffeine. Your idea that it isnt comes from how its used - smoked and isufflated. Well if caffeine was smoked it would F**K you up. Oral Cocaine is simply going to be like a smoother version of Oral ritalin.

I wish i had the opportunity to try it but i never have, because they take it out of drinks. If they left it in cola drinks i would be happy to drink the 1-hour short half life dopaminergic called cocaine. I think it would be very good and beneficial for you, for meditation, for meditation-walks, for writing or whatever. its not going to hurt you, its got a 1-hour half life it cant even stay active long enough to cause dependence unless you drink it all day every day.

Im calling BS on this post. Oxy is unique because it has less side effects than fentanyl demerol and works better than hydro. this post is a lie. sorry. You dont even know about OxyTrex anyway, which is going to replace oxy - it will have a couple micrograms of naltrexone in withthe oxy. get educated, your opinion is wrong and false. Lucky you dont have a ruptured disc in your back.

All I know is that a lot of people are ODing from oxycontin.

well im real frustrated with prohibition i cant help making agitated tough worded posts, very sorry - but we cant prohibit anything, the shadow government runs the herion and cocaine trade, they are the criminals on the top

people OD, thats unfortunate, but Oxy would be banned because its pleasurable, people also OD on drugs that produce no pleasure, like tylenol

the medical industry kills hundreds of thousands of people per year with thier treatments and drugs while only a tiny fraction of that die from taking too much oxy and getting respiratory depression.

Let people have what they want, the cost of prohibition is much higher than the cost of the people who respiratory depression OD

My appologies im one of the most agitated forum posters there is, i try and control myself

What about the reports that oxycontin causes deafness when taken in high doses? Supposedly, that's what caused Rush Limbaugh to go deaf.

how would an opioid cause deafness? Oxy is a pure opioid with no novelty to it like demerol or tramadol. Oxy has no other effect on the body besides mu agonist - only if excessive mu agonism its self causes deafness could oxy do so.

then it would be excessive opioids in general that could cause hearing loss in few people, not just specifically oxy.

on the other hand ones like demoral have other mechanisms other than mu agonist that can specifically have side effects that other opioids do not.
