Well my literary hero has been diagnosed with a rare degenerative brain disease which they're labelling Alzheimers (sp?). This is sad, I knew he was ill as he'd been told by doctors he'd had several 'mini-strokes' which was a complete misdiagnosis.

I've met the guy a few times, the last time was at a scout style Discworld Jamboree here in the UK near his home. The guy came and drank beer, chatted with and to us, came and watched a variety show and it was just great to rub shoulders with him in a place dedicated to his fantasy world. Many people have looked like they're insane when the many laugh-out-loud parts in his books and public transport combine.

Its just a damn shame that now his genius is being realised in upcoming TV and movie adaptations, he is diagnosed with this. I wonder whether he'll change his introductions in his books - "...and I am still not dead."

Wishing you well fella!

I have never heard of this author, but I will add him to my book list. I know how you feel though, one of my favorite science fiction authors Robert Jordan was recently diagnosed with cardiac amyloidosis about 8 months ago and died in September. It was so surprising.

RIP CHUCK SCHULDINER
RIP DIMEBAG
RIP ROBERT ANTON WILSON
RIP ROBERT JORDAN

I feel better now, thanks.
