Lesson Unlearned

It is an observable phenomenon
That those who are down tend to get shat upon

Why do we do this to each other? Just when
We need each other most it is always then
Someone decides to take advantage of our
Incapacity and gain some petty power
At our great expense when we have least defense
A failure of sensitivity and sense

For when the ones who wound find the tables turned
They just might get burned ...by their lesson unlearned
