Tears Without Reason

What is it about this night that makes my eyes well and blur.
What provoked these tears?

Here in the dark they fall, without reason.
Sliding down my cheeks, coating my lips with liquid salt.
Here I shudder beneath heavy breaths, asking myself why, why do I cry?

I lose track of time while in silence, I wait for the answer.
But the blue haze of winter’s icy dawn is upon me, empty as always.

My Dogs and I in Winter

Curled into tiny balls, we huddle, like a pack.
One at my side and one at my feet,
protecting each other from winter’s chill.
Sharing dreams we shift and stir, as if mad.

Oh, these are great! I'm sorry I didn't get to them earlier!

My sister Dara curls up and huddles with her dogs too. One time I was trying to speak german to Silke and said something about Dara sleeping MIT her dogs, and she laughed and laughed; it seems I had said that Dara was--ahem--being... how you say... "intimato" with them. The correct German word in that case would have been BEI.

Do I digress? Well I guess! You should hear me as a teacher... good grief...

In any case, these are little gems, and I love them.

Thank you very much for sharing them.

I think they accomplish what people attempt in haiku and so often fail to achieve. They are snapshots, strobe-light flash images. I love them. I would love to read more of them! I think it's a good groove.

Well written.
