Passion
Blood dripping on shoes
Cold fall rain cleanses a knife
Her beauty eternal.

Normally, I don't care for haikus.. not sure why... but I really like this one a lot. *applause*

Can I suggest removing the "Her" to make it a syllablically exact haiku. The essence of the poem is incredibly illuminating of the title.

Yeah I kept thinking I had the last line wrong but want to keep her in there. How's this:
Passion
Blood dripping on shoes
Cold fall rain cleanses a knife
Her beauty undone.

But now different.
Both so good actually;
One with 5, one 6
Who cares about the first not being a haiku. It is just a good poem. The second is a perfect contemporary haiku.

this haiku virus
is extremely contageous.
poets health warning
before the poet health inspectors come and put us all in quarantine, let me just say I like this haiku, but I much prefer to second version because it makes more sense to me.

Of course we lay blame

Hey Hey not to blame -
Hon-(ou)-ra-ble Rick started it
So you can blame him
(getting desperate when you have to use silent syllables!)
Rick

Then I suppose I can plea-bargain?
Hey Hey
Oct 29, 2004, 11:34 AM
No, straight to gaol (jail to you), with only chop sticks and stir fries. Would suit me!
Rick
Oct 29, 2004, 11:54 AM
Stir fry is Chinese. May I have sushi? With our Calvinist background, gaol here is sometimes called "penitentiary."
Hey Hey
Oct 29, 2004, 12:02 PM
Hey, which part of Japan did you go to without stir fry? Sushi - YES! Rick you can take me out for dinner any time!
Hey Hey
Oct 29, 2004, 12:03 PM
Hey, penitentiary could be the first line of a haiku - you or me first?
Rick
Oct 29, 2004, 12:07 PM
Hey Hey in the clink:
We now throw away the key,
penitentiary.

Hey Hey

I should go and hide in my hole after that one, its. But after Rick's I have to escape:
Sitting in the pen
And having little to do
Except this haiku
(Extra makes for a rhyme?)

I love the witty banter on this site. It makes my heart smile!

Hey, Skitch! This is an eerie piece, but I can picture the dark beauty in the scene. Nicely painted!
