The mind is like a dog,
a faithful companion to the steps of the owner.
The mind is like a dog,
its owners loyalty tested in the distrust of others,
and the mind, like a dog, runs headlong ahead by leaps and bounds,
or hides wimpering and spooked and worries your heel.
yet they keep close at hand in the way that is chosen,
whether the fair and rocky path along the precipice,
or the mean and muddy trench amidst the swamp,
the mind is like a dog;
and it will not learn right from wrong,
but it may be taught to act rightly,
and heed your command.
