We Are Surrounded By Everyday Angels

The ones we tend to forget,
The ones we take as given,
And the ones down here on Earth,
Are exactly like the those in heaven.

They're the ones that help for free,
The stranger who kept you from harm's way,
They might be the ones that give you shelter,
On a rainy day.

They might be the one holding the door,
The one who handed you, your tool,
They might be the one holding the ladder,
Or the helping hand, when you looked like a fool.

They might be the teacher who helped you,
Or the icon of your day,
The volunteers behind the scenes,
Showing compassion in their own way.

The advisory site you found on the net,
The new confident in cyberspace,
The newspaperboy who arrives on time,
The helper at the right time and place.

The nurse who held your hand,
The fireman who pulled you out the fire,
The soldier who came back alive,
A helping hand when the situation is dire.

The child who runs to fetch help,
The animals that lead the way,
The makers of documentaries,
The radio on a lonely day.

The letter from an old friend,
The arms of your child when it's cold,
The one you met in the supermarket,
Who said, "you don't look that old."

The one who notices your efforts,
The one who always says, "thank you,"
The neighbour who came around,
When you were feeling blue.

The one who helped you across the road,
Who helped you to the other side,
The one we were grateful for,
When a loved one died.

The ones who stood by you,
When everything was lost,
The ones who give freely,
Their time at no extra cost.

The owner of your local store,
Who is always open late,
Or the landlord of your local,
Or your very best mate.

The bus driver who waited,
The taxi driver who saw your hand,
The postman with "the" letter,
The teacher who helped you understand.

The family member you can rely on,
The grandparent with the good advice,
The sister or brother who was always there,
The aunty and uncle, who are always nice.

The classmate who gave you the hankerchief,
To wipe your blooded nose,
The one you have your secrets with,
The one who likes your clothes.

The janitor who cleans up the mess,
The undertaker at the time of grief,
The one who grabs the runaway pram,
The priest for your belief.

The nun who dedicates her life,
To only ever help others,
The unsung heroines,
Faiths' surrogate mothers.

The one who confirmed you were pregnant,
The doctor who said, "it's benine,"
The one who says, "don't worry,
Everything will turn out fine."

The policeman who was there at the right time,
All sponsers of all charities,
The ambulance driver when he arrives,
The child who always says please.

The one who gave you a new job,
The day after you were fired,
The ones in your social group,
Who rallied around when you retired.

The one with the plaster,
To aid you in your plight,
The one who stood in the way,
The one who stopped the fight.

The one who gave you water,
When your throat was dry,
The one you know you can trust,
With a little white lie.

The one who handed you the torch,
So you could see in the dark,
The one who held your hand,
And lead you through the park.

The babysitter you always use,
The helicopter pilot and loadmaster
Who pulled you out of the sea,
When you were the victim of disaster.

The snowplough driver who reached you,
When you were stuck in the drift,
The driver who stopped on the rainy night,
And offered you a lift.

The driver who stopped to help you,
When you had a flat,
The one who says, "no, of course not,
The dress doesn't make you look fat."

The librarian who found the book,
The porter who carried your case,
The one who stopped the purse snatcher,
The one who gave chase.

The one who picked up your groceries,
When they fell out on the road,
The one who carried the other end,
To help share the load.

The sewage worker who makes sure,
You have clean water everyday,
The electrician who fixed the problem,
So the darkness went away.

The plumber who came out,
So your family could get heat,
The maid who cleans your house,
Keeping it all tidy and neat.

The one who makes food for you,
When you do not feel like cooking,
The one who grabs your arm and stops you,
From crossing the road without looking.

The one who shouts, "look out!"
So you avoid getting hurt,
The one who helps you up,
When you're face down in the dirt.

The friend who says, " call me,
Anytime day or night."
The barrister who tells you,
To stand up for your right.

The volunteers who pick up trash,
The volunteers in the first aid tent,
The volunteers who turn up every time
There is a voluntary event

The mountain rescuer and his dog,
Who found you in the snow,
The midwife who delivered your baby,
The one who showed you where to go

The fisherman out in all weathers,
The roadsweeper in your town,
The one who says,"I'll come over,"
When you've been feeling down

The one who says," your loan has gone through,"
You keep your house and home,
The one who makes you feel,
As if your never on your own.

The one who lifts the heavy box,
And takes it upstairs,
The one who makes the coffee and tea,
The one who really cares.

The one who says, " I'll do that,
You might hurt yourself,
The one who is truely concerned,
About your welfare and health.

The one who says, "well done,
You deserve this recognition "
The one who identify's,
With your ambition.

The one who says, "don't worry,
I know that it is true,
Last but definitely not least,
The one who says, " I love you."

There are so many everyday angels,
We do take it for granted,
Hopefully a seed of wisdom,
Has just been planted.

To plant a seed of wisdom,
Is to plant a wisdom tree,
If this blossoms, it's up to you,
It's no longer down to me.

This is a nice idea. I'm sure that you will agree, the poets on the board, who post their work freely for others to see and enjoy, should go on the list of "everyday angels". Of course, you are included on that list.
