Ascension

In the 'new age' field, the term ascension usually means that we, as spirit beings, can somehow create a situation where we can take our body into the spiritual realms and go everywhere we wish to go. There may be other uses for the term 'ascension', but this great escape from physical reality is often the main thought. This form of ascension is to spiritualize your body so that it ascends above, or transcends, this mundane physical reality. There are also 'ascended masters' from whom many of the books in the field claim their authorship, these masters have already ascended beyond the physical realms and give us teachings from the higher realms which are more full of love and light.

Another use for the term 'ascension' is, instead of seeing it as an escape from the physical world, is to bring the fullness of spirit into expression in the physical world. As Jesus promised us, we would be able to do all the things he did and more. There is an essential difference in the direction - whether ascension means a movement out of the physical plane to rejoin spirit or a movement of spirit into the physical plane.

So how can something like ascension exist? Doesn't this violate all sorts of laws of physics? Indeed the usual point of view is that nothing exists other than the physical world and that to travel from place to place requires moving ones physical atoms from one place to another. That there is nothing beyond the physical world. That the claims of the existence of spirits are delusions. etc. Yet the claims continue to exist. More importantly, is there any truth to the claims?

The books on this page contain some answers, but not what I take to be the best answers. For those answers see the companion pages on energy healing (TBD) and new physics (TBD).

In order for ascension to exist I suggest there must exist a certain basic prerequisite principle in the universe. Namely that matter can be changed and dissolved at will, while there still remains the existence of some form of consciousness that retains identity and can reform matter when desired. In both 'energy healing' and the 'new physics' we see how this necessary prerequisite can exist. These necessary prerequisites raise a number of questions, such as the existence of a soul or something that survives death, the fluidity of matter, where our identity truly lies, and so forth. This is much like Dr. McCoy on Star Trek pondering what is truly happening in the transporter beam and being nervous over the affect to his soul of repeated transporter trips.

Be that as it may, I will leave questions about where our true identity lies to elsewhere and use as the base assumption that we have a soul that exists beyond death, that our true identity is that soul, that in fact death is merely a transition between states of being, and that matter is malleable and changeable by thought. These assumptions are supportable from other realms of thought so we can easily rest on them.

What I understand from my reading and my experiences is that reality just isn't all its cracked up to be. Fortunately the physicists are beginning to realize this as well and, perhaps after a more complete generational change, these ideas will be taken more seriously.

Reality is multi dimensional. There are the three dimensions of the conventionally recognized time and space in which we live (up/down, left/right, front/back), and there is a fourth dimension generally understood to mean time. In addition there are many more dimensions than that. I don't know what to call those other dimensions, my experience of the world while in the act of performing energy healing suggests they exist and that I have had some direct experience of their existence. Like everybody here, the thinking and language processes which I grew up with concern the three or four dimensions of the physical world and greater dimensionality is somewhat a foreign concept which makes it difficult to discuss my experiences.

To be physical in a world is to limit your perceptions to that particular realm of the fullness of reality. This world we live in is one subset of the fullness of reality and there appears to be other places in the fullness of reality which are other universes. In ones perception there is the possibility of full perception of the fullness of reality in all its dimensions, or there is the limited level of perception such as we experience in this world. This raises the possibility of 'parallel dimensions' or 'parallel realities' which are other three dimensional subsets of reality than the one we live in. They are parallel, for some multidimensional definition of the word 'parallel', to one another.

Ones perceptions determine the reality one lives in. If your perceptions say that there is up/down, left/right and front/back then your reality is three dimensional like where we live. But the fullness of reality has many more dimensions than that. How can you see or understand the fullness of reality if your perception does not include those other dimensions? If your perceptions include all the dimensions of the fullness of reality then is that not the world you would live in?

One can imagine some of the things one can do in this greater reality and how they could be done. For instance teleportation, which is to instantly move from one place to another without physically traveling the distance in between. In the fullness of reality there are likely many shorter paths through other dimensions than the matching path in the three dimensional world. What one would do is change their perceptions to include the higher dimensions, and step through to the destination, and then change their perceptions again to match the destination. Bilocation, where ones physical body is present in multiple places at the same instant, can be accomplished by changing your perception to include all the places in which you wish to appear.

So how does one change their perceptions? And is this all there is to it? We do seem to be rather stuck here seeing only these three dimensions. It is said that it is necessary is to raise the vibrational quality of your body to vibrate at the higher rate necessary to become aware of more of reality. The higher the vibrational quality of your body the more aware you are, the more in tune you are with the universe, the more you can do, etc.

What does it mean to 'raise ones vibration'? This phrase usually refers to the state of being, especially that of the persons energy field. Someone with a 'low vibration' has their energy field vibrating in something like anger or in other 'earthy' vibrational qualities like the beating of a drum or a waterfall. Likewise someone with a 'high vibration' is in an experience of love, or in some other way in touch more with the unity of all the universe.

So to raise your vibration is to be more loving. Simple, eh? This is where it is more difficult than it might appear. We all have within us thoughts or ideas or memories or fears or compulsions which are of 'low vibration'. This might surface in one of numerous ways. In terms of your energy field those 'low vibration' things appear as black spots and the effects can take many forms. Whatever form this takes for you, the common effect is to prevent you from raising your vibration sufficiently to use these abilities.

Here we reach self improvement and healing of the pains of life. What keeps us from being aware of and interacting with the fullness of reality are the pains which keep us separate from the world. To interact with the fullness of reality is to be fully in touch with the entire fullness of reality. Anything which keeps you from this, that is the pains of life, keep you from experiencing the fullness of reality and represents a part of you which you do not wish to interact with or even acknowledge the existence. This creates walls, fear, separation, pain, and anger all of which eventually creates this world in which we live.

To heal and to release the pains of life is to let go of those things which keep you separate from the rest of the universe. As you heal your vibration raises, your perception widens to include more and more of yourself, and naturally this connects you with perceiving more and more of the fullness of reality.

"What is lightbody?". (By Tashira Tachi-ren published 1995 by Oughten House)

This book is a guide book to the realms of developing your lightbody on the path to your ascension. It discusses the path of this development in a twelve step model with expected experiences along the way. The twelve steps are said to not be a fixed path and they may happen in any order.

It is quite good and filled with useful information. It is channeled by Tashira Tachi-ran from Archangel Ariel.

This book begins with a parable describing a world made up of an aquarium within which is a goldfish bowl. The goldfish bowl is one way allowing the fish in the aquarium to see inside the goldfish bowl, but those inside the bowl cannot see out. The bowl is completely sealed and contains freshwater while the aquarium contains salt water. The sides of the bowl are growing thinner and thinner and some of the salt water is leaking through and the goldfish are beginning to see the creatures in the outside water.

Now put yourself in the position of the goldfish. What might your reaction be to a sudden change in the appearance of the world. Greater contact with an outside world that heretofore was hidden and unknown. This parable obviously refers to a theory about what is happening today, that the veils are lifting between on 3 dimensional world allowing more of the outer realms to leak through and be seen. Think of the great variety of reaction you see with some people claiming the beings of the outer dimensions are invaders, that they have been controlling us, that they are saviors and we are to do their will, etc.

We begin to see, now, the usefulness of information about the 'ascension'. Or do we? If the ascension is happening, then yes, it is useful to know the structure of the outside world so that we may be prepared as the veils lift and we are thrust into the brave new world. But is this process happening or are these people making it up?

I do not know the answer to that question. In my experience my awareness of the beings of spirit have been greatly increasing these last few years. I more regularly hold conversation with a form of intelligence that appears to be of the spirit realms. I more regularly sense energy forms that appear to be intelligent beings of the spirit realms. I more regularly have flashes of intuitive knowledge, of channeling, of seeing remote places, etc. Just as the books say should happen because the vibrations of the planet are being adjusted so that we can all ascend. But, how do I know this is happening to everybody all at once, or whether it happens for me simply because I am practicing these kind of psychic skills more and more giving extra strength to those 'muscles'?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Greg Braden has been studying one aspect of this question. His background is as a geologist, before he began developing awareness of spirit. Most of his work is talking about the ascension of the planet or, as he puts it, the collective initiation. That is, the time we live in now is a time in which all who live in this time are undergoing initiation into greater mastery and this initiation is being collectively as a whole society. He has two books and a set of video tapes covering this information.

Awakening to Zero Point: The Collective Initiation by Greg Braden, Paperback, published 1994)

This book covers how we are affected by vibrations, especially that of the magnetic field of the planet as well as other kinds of vibration. It covers the underlying structure of the universe as expressed in geometry, especially sacred geometry. And it covers how such things as "good" and "evil", "love" and "hate" and many other things express through geometric forms, express as vibrations, and thus in turn affect us in our lives.

Since we are affected by the vibrational quality of the planet any change in this would change society through changing how each of us lives and acts. Indeed in this book Greg shows how the planet itself is undergoing great change and that this change is showing up in the magnetic field of the earth. The strength of the field is weakening and at the same time the frequency, or vibration, of the field is increasing. What is interesting is that in over a hundred years of observation scientists had assumed the earths field had a constant frequency on the order of 7 Hz. However, starting in the 1980s the frequency started increasing and has lately (in 1997) been measured at over 10 Hz. The magnetic poles have started wandering as well so much that the runways at some airports have had to be renumbered.

Walking Between The Worlds: The Science of Compassion By Greg Braden, Paperback, published 1997.

In this book Greg explores initiation, and compassion. He covers information from the Essene and other ancient traditions about initiation and compassion. I discussed love and compassion in the introductory material above, that to move to the higher realms one must have great love and compassion. Greg explores what this means.

He also covers the vibrational qualities of sacred chants and the older languages such as hebrew or sanskrit. It is believed that some of the ancient languages were designed specifically by spirit to carry the spiritual vibration very easily. So by chanting a phrase like "eyah asher eyah" one invokes a vibrational quality which affirms oneself and ones existance.

A related work is the sacred geometry teachings of Drunvalo Melchizedek as filtered through the understanding of Bob Frissell and published in the book Nothing in This Book is True, But It's Exactly How Things Are (also available as audio cassette). Bob has been practicing as a rebirther (rebirthing is a breathing technique which helps create extremely powerful healing experiences) for many years and relatively recently came across the teachings of Drunvalo. He says that as he learned these teachings he knew with more and more certainty that this is how things are. He describes very well the teachings that are given in the Sacred Geometry workshop as developed by Drunvalo (which Drunvalo has been teaching people for many years).

Sacred Geometry is an assertion that everything of the universe is made of elements of a more fundamental organization of matter and/or energy which are formed in geometric arrangements. It is helpful to remember at this moment Einsteins equation of relativity which says that matter is really energy, and the further developments in quantum physics that verify and expound on that idea more fully. The idea of a more fundamental geometric nature to the universe is nothing new, for Plato taught this very thing. In fact the five basic solids of geometry are named after him, the Platonic Solids.

It is these five Platonic Solids which make up Sacred Geometry, as Drunvalo teaches it. In Drunvalos workshop, and in Bob's book, much of the world is explained in terms of the ratios found in the platonic solids. Of the ratios the one most useful is known as the Golden Mean Ratio which was seen by the ancient greeks as the most beautiful or harmonious of ratios and which is derived from a particular form in sacred geometry.

Between the works of these two authors we gain an interesting view of the world.

First that the world is made of more fundamental elements than matter. If we think about the search that atomic physicists have undergone for the last century perhaps we begin to see the truth of that. First they thought the smallest thing was the atom, hence applying a name which implies it is an indivisible unit of matter. But with further study they found the subatomic particles (neutrons, protons and electrons) and with further study they find smaller and smaller particles. And now they aren't even sure there is matter to be found anywhere but instead only energy patterns.

Second that geometric relationships of the arrangement of the fundamental elements are what makes the world what it is. By creating different geometric relationships of the fundamental elements one can create different things. By modifying the geometric relationships that exist one can change and modify what is. That studying geometric relationships in the makeup of the world one can gain greater understanding and knowledge of how the world works.

Third that vibrational qualities in the world affect the matter of the world. The vibrational qualities are related to and help form geometric relationships. Vibrations are carried throughout the universe in the fundamental elements of the universe.

We begin to see now how changes in the universe could ripple around, affecting the vibrational qualities of the section of the universe we live in, and filtering into our awareness of the universe. We begin to see how the activities of the people on the planet, such as making more pollution or alternatively growing more trees, each could affect the vibrational qualities of the local universe and again filtering into our personal awareness of the universe. In both cases something affects the fundamental elements of the local section of the universe, either the outside influence of vibrational ripples weaving through the universe, or the local affects of the number of trees or quantity of pollution present. The affected local universe then changes vibration to match these influences. As the local universe changes vibration we then personally are affected by the change in vibration of the local universe.

The book series The Life and Teachings of the Masters of the Far East have been around for a long time, originally published in the 1930s. It is the story of one Baird T. Spalding who was part of an expedition exploring the lands of India, Tibet and western China in the Gobi Desert. This expedition occurred around the turn of the century and, according to his writings, they experienced many strange and wondrous things.

In this book it tells of bilocation, teleportation, walking through fire, bringing people back from the dead, and much more. The masters of Tibet are said to be able to do all these things. This book speaks of this as a process of raising the 'vibrations' of the body sufficiently and then reaching out to the place you wish to go and then lowering the 'vibrations' of the body again so that you then are located in that other place.
