You, You
Spending this money that I haven't got
Maybe I should or maybe should not
Trying to take my glazed mind off you
Maybe that's something that I shouldn't do
Calling all manner of people I know
Telling each one of my talents, all crow
Trying to rid my thoughts of your face
It still remains and I'm a disgrace
Reading and writing my spare time away
Hoping distraction, diversion through play
Trying to forget your influence on me
Just independent I'm trying to be
Searching the attic to blow away dust
Searching for memories I know I can trust
Trying to justify life without you
But knowing if I think that, it just isn't true
Settling for sitting and weeping out loud
Just want to hide my head in a shroud
Trying to find a way to get through
To tell you I miss you, I love you, you, you

Dear Megan
Thanks so much for reading. I don't know where this came from as I'm so happily in love (give or take the odd row during the 29 years). But the last line was written from the deepest part of my heart and I shed a tear when I just read it again. I'm getting soft in my old age!

You really are an exquisite poet, old boy; you underestimate yourself. But then, since everyone else overestimates themselves, it is rather refreshing! You really are smarter and better than you know, and a genuinely fine poet. Why, if you have 5% of the ego of some of the kiddos who've flamed their way through these pages, you would be some sort of unstoppable evil genius; surely it would end in world domination! I shudder!
But then, no, I do not shudder; for it would only be you, my dear friend. Those who have the least interest in dominating the world seem those who could do it the most good. Well, in any case, we are rather on the sidelines, and chimpanzees like Bush are pulling strings... How DID that happen, by the way? Does anybody know how this happened? "Affirmative Action," perhaps? Was it time, in terms of social evolution, for the first developmentally-disabled American president? What we used to call "retarded"? We used to make the distinction between the "educably retarded" and the merely retarded, which latter presumably were not that open-minded, if through no fault of their own. Mr. Bush surely would represent this latter group--indeed through no fault of his own--and that is fine; it's just a bit awkward when what we used to call a retarded person, and an "ineducable" one at that, should be under the impression that he runs the planet. Strange times, these.
Rick! Are you out there? God bless you in the opposition! May your candidate win! I understand that Mr. Kerry actually reads books. Imagine that in a politician!
Do I digress? Well, I guess (nor need I ask)...
What I mean to say, Hey, is that I believe you to be a first-class A-1 poet, and I love your poetry very, very much. And I find it so refreshing that you, gifted as you are, are not an egomaniac. If one is to be a genius, let him at least not be an evil one, that's what I say.
All my love to you, my dear B.
Ubi caritas, etc., and yours ever,
+S

Name-calling is extremely chlldish---I'm talking to the flamer, Mark, not you---and to post it in here is extremely disrespectful to Hey Hey's work. So stop cowering under the guise of unknown and step up if you have a problem with +Steven, because he deserves to know and not be casually flamed by some schlomo.
Hey Hey,
Sorry for adding to the pollution. I felt it had to be said.

Dear Megan
No problem. We who can see and understand Steven's goodwill and charitable work don't have to bothered by such graffiti from people who don't understand what this POETRY board is all about. But I will, in future, as a moderator, remove such "Unknown" remarks that contribute nothing to poetry.
Steven, thank you for your very kind remarks. I don't feel that I deserve such praise but it does inspire me to write more.
Best wishes
