Hey Hey
A Band of Friends

The summer nights with tents aglow
At meadow's end comradeships flow
The chuckling band of merry friends
Full verse in case the time should end

The embers sparkle with delight
Illuminating fun and fright
And linger burning in the air
The whiff of chargrilled fish and hare

The clouds that run past lunar face
Almost fail to win the race
And heads tilt upward, eager eyes
Search shooting stars in darkened skies

Then soothing music wafting by
Like choirboys harmonising try
And if one shouldn't quite hit the note
Amongst those friends no one would gloat

Now songs and firelight, cocoa dreams
Life can be perfect, or so it seems
To those in friendships such as these
Who make this wonder, such a breeze

The fading spirits arms locked tight
Protecting soulmates through the night
The dreams they come so meek and mild
Remembering good times as a child

Oh, this is an especially good one, Hey Hey; really atmospheric and deliciously nostalgic. I think you capture the essence of "a band of friends" quite well here.

Really a delight. Makes me think of that acre of clover you mentioned.

I ought to come and see you, and bring Silke. She studied at Oxford, you know (maybe you didn't know, I don't know; anyway, she's been to England quite a lot. I know we would both love that clover).

I think what happened to my computer was that some disgruntled flamer-type person attacked and destroyed my poor old machine. My technician did say it was a malicious attack, and I rather have my theories about it. And I notice from what my anti-virus systems tell me on the new one that they are trying even now to attack and destroy, but--Gott sei Dank--they are not getting through. I wish people wouldn't be so mean! I hate driving to Anaheim over and over for the sake of the computer. I like my new one a lot, and this is the third time I've had to recover from some horrible attack. Oh well... (Wasn't that funny, that fella saying I am "verbose"? He DID also say "unique," however; and I suppose that both are true.) In any case, I hope meanies don't destroy this new computer. They are certainly trying! Worms galore! Think of the cyber-fish I could catch! Bother...

But I'm having a wonderful day. And I must tell you my big surprise for Silke sometime. Good Lord, how will I ever keep this secret? I've NEVER been able to keep a secret, but I must, because I want to surprise her so much.

OK, "verbose" and "unique," but with "a cryptic confidence"! Ha ha, Hey Hey!

You are doing a magnificent job as a poetry moderator, by the way; you and Aiyana both, and dear Kevin when he can. Big K works 100 hours a week in a factory though, so he's a pretty busy guy. But he does a wonderful job when he can. I just blather and write thousands of sonnets. I should go and write one, by the way.

All my love to all.

What an idiot our president is over here, by the way; I'm SO embarrassed. I do think he must genetically be a chimpanzee. I try not to think about it. I read the other day that the overwhelming majority of people all over the world want to be rid of him; heaven knows I would like to be rid of him too.

(Thank you, Rick, for what you are doing!) We're in a bad way, Hey Hey, in geopolitical terms, in any case; otherwise I'm doing OK.

What a special, moving poem! Your poem was one that earned the right to be more than read... It was absorbed and appreciated. I reminisced quite a bit while reading it. Picturing myslef back there in simpler times with good friends, good beer, and good music. While I am older, and supposed to be more responsible, refined, etc. I still spend a good deal of time out there. Now, with many less people, a little less beer, an agenda to bring some meat home to the table, and the music a little lower, but still with one thing in mind... friendship. Thanks for taking me out to the woods tonight.

Hey Hey
Many thanks for all of your generous comments.

Oxford eh? I'm impressed yet again with Silke.

I can't keep a secret for a second!

Field is full of long grass this year- due to continual rain, broken tractor and lack of enthusiasm. Plenty of clover amongst it though. But the strong winds are bringing some blue skies today. Unfortunately I can't cut the grass as I have to go to the dentist - ouch! I always leave my outline in sweat on the dentist's couch! I can't wait to get it over with.

Ah . . . the memories . . . Is it strange that I feel nostalgia already?? Hmmmm. . . Wonderful work yet again, Hey Hey. As always, it has been a pleasure. happy.gif
