Hey Hey
Unfriendly as you like

A third floor flat overlooking grey concrete windowed walls and a junction's busy roars
Unfriendly as you like until you turn your head inside to rosy red and garlic perfume
And alcoholic laughter permeating suspiciously tight eyed cousin's sleep
Unfriendly as you like until the shopping trip with chocolate milk and browning bread
And glowing butcher's face obscured by sausage garlands reflected in steel in large hands

A city centre crowd with glazed cold faces and surrounded for the lasso by smoking lorries
Unfriendly as you like until a whistling policeman halts the show and waves a child to cross
And worried mother catches eyes and love smiles flow and sounds replaced by angel feathers
Unfriendly as you like until coffee fills the nose and cream cake windows beckon in, the chat begins
And cognac time delays dissuade departures, smiling waiter settles in to chat to maid

A dark and empty train compartment, grubby floor and bursting bins and sticky tabletops
Unfriendly as you like until a forgotten box of homemade sandwiches delights
And tea trolley rumbles fill the air and hot tea reaches icy toes and city lights appear
Unfriendly as you like until the bursting doors release and floods of glowing faces rush to seats
And travel weary eyes they glow as Christmas morning, part of party, pleased to be

A lonely night just sitting, staring onto dingy walls with faded faces framed in wood
Unfriendly as you like until the kettle whistles, fire crackles, faded faces smile back
And mellow leather sofa scent combines with memories family, friends and loves
Unfriendly as you like until the doorbell rings and heartening flutters raise a tune
And dancing, singing, lips to ears and lips to lips remind that life is sweet and true, for you

Yikes! Every line is a poem unto itself. So much going on. I really enjoyed getting caught up in that British world for a bit.
