Having cats in the house
Does not always entail bliss
When you run out of kitty litter
You house can end up smelling of ****

Cats shouldn't always be kept indoors
Cats also have a sense of pride
Show your true vocation as a cat lover
And show them there is an outside

Would you like to live in a cage ?
Scurrying around all the time like a mouse
Not all cages have bars
Some cages are also called a house

Cats can be very therapuetical
So blissful when they take a nap
Purring away in contentment
As you stroke it upon your lap

But you live on the seventeenth floor
You are lonely, so you buy a cat
It never gets to know what it means to run free
But it learns how to get lazy and fat

This goes against the cat's true nature
But it fulfills a human need
You may still call yourself a cat lover
But you are still guilty of human greed

You put your needs above those of the cat
You're human, you always come first
Is what you do best for the cat ?
Or is it really the worst ?

We feel pity if a person is housebound
As many housebound people truly know
What it feels like to be the cat
Who can only stare out of the window

I write this for only one reason
I write this through choice
Only humans have a say in a human world
Cats don't really have a voice

O.K. yes they purr, growl and hiss
But when it comes down to a voice
Because we can control our cat's fate
Cat's dont really have a choice

So before you rush out at Christmas to buy one
Think from a cat's point of view
Is your home going to be a home or a prison ?
Well, that's really up to you.

John, I love your poem, and in it you make a good point, a point with which I am in agreement. I am a cat person myself, and I have always had my cats be "free-range" cats; they go wherever they please, believe me!

I know some wonderful people who have cats which are strictly indoor-cats, and I do not judge them in any way; I just wanted to tell you that not only do I love your poem as a poem, I also happen to agree with your message, and have always practiced it myself.

I can assure you that my cat, Freddie Noodles, does what he pleases and goes where he pleases!

Thank you for writing this and all the other wonderful poems you have shared here today; I wish I had the strength and the time to properly reply to all and each, but Silke is terribly sick and I am so worried. She is finding it almost impossible to breathe right now, and that frightens us both so. Do keep her in your heart, would you, my friend?

Respect and Solidarity to you.

Namaste.
Rick
I'm a cat's doorman and food server, so maybe you could write a poem about the ethics of cats keeping people.
Hey Hey
Nice poem. My cat has just been bitten and has an infection - vet later today. Then maybe he'll have to go on holiday!

Steven. please pass on our love and best wishes to Silke. She is our shooting star. We are trying to breathe for her.
