For My Friend

I had a friend
I thought I knew him
His gentle voice, his sweet laugh, his sense of humor
His company was an enjoyment to me.
He made me laugh. Made me feel good. Made me special
The connections we had were more then physical.
They were mental as well.
A connection that was eerie in its simplicity

But where is my friend?
Have I lost him?
Have we drifted apart like so many others along the way?
Did we allow something that could be so much more
Sail away like an untethered boat in a relentless tide?
Are we destined now to be souls parted by the fickle hand of fate?
Alone in a world full of lonely people

I miss my friend
I want the warmth of his laugh to envelope me
The caress of his smile to warm my skin
His humor to wrap around me like a cloak against a starless night of loneliness
To hear his voice from across the distance that separates us
And to know that all is well and good
That no distance or hardship will keep us from our potential
The potential of future happiness, laughter, caring understanding, and love

I write this for you my friend
Shedding a single tear of sadness for what could have been
For what still might be

I write this for you my friend
Shedding a single tear of sadness for what could have been
For what still might be

Sad....
I can relate to this poem...

Nicely written.
