Road to Nowhere
Jim leaned slightly to one side and passed wind tunefully. Although he was illuminated from all sides as he sat in the study, no one noticed his rendition. Julia had just passed by the door and paused momentarily as she made her way to the kitchen, hopefully he thought, to put the kettle on. This had been another boring day and, for the past hour, he had been unable to settle to watch TV, prod the piano, flick the canvas on his new easel, or even surf the web. The latter was often a chance for him to leave reality for an hour or two and relax into a diversity of unconnected information as he moved from link to link in his usual haphazard way. This time his attempt to surf had exacerbated his frustration as there had been a problem with the connection and he was unable to log on.
Anther end to another perfect day he thought resentfully. Life was slipping by and nothing of value was happening. His only driving force was his insatiable love for Julia. The more bored he became, the more he seemed to love her. And he told her so, ceaselessly. Did she find this boring, he thought? Was it that he was boring, rather than his life? Had he made his life boring? Was he in danger of losing her?
Time for bed. Another sleepless night. But things were about to change………
