Transcendental Sonnet #912:
Odd Things Like Celery
I quit smoking last year and now I quit drinking
And this leaves me a great deal of time for thinking
With neither the oral fixation of smoking
Nor befuddlement of booze... and I'm not joking
I really feel like I can get a lot more done
Like I just woke up and things seem like they're more fun
Last year a pencil replaced my erstwhile cigar
Now it is the novelty of driving my car
To distant stores to buy odd things like celery
And distant shores beckon my curiosity
So I keep my hand busy writing poetry
Drink a lot of water and see what I can see
And perhaps now I will live a very long time
(Which I will need if I'm to get better at rhyme!)
