In order for a racist to hold such beliefs the oposition must be dehumanized, turned into a 'demon' like character, subhuman, animal like.

Dehumanizing is the key to racism. Wars can't be fought without it. George W. Bush said that Sadam Husain had no soul, meaning, he was not human.

Nazis and Jews, Slavery in the South, early American settlers and American Indians, are all examples of dehumanizing.

It's my inclination that passivism is key. Passivism does not retaliate for ill gotten actions. It say, "I will not hate you." That's what MLK was all about. Jesus, too. Ghandi, and on and on.

Thank you for your 26 suggestions. Regarding number nine, I used to teach computer science at a major univeristy. I estimate that the majority of my students were non-white. I think that if I had refused to teach them I would have been accused of racism and then fired.

Let me start off by saying that I do agree with some of the 26 suggestions. But Non-White person seems to be a racist himself. He dosn't seem to be too worried about eleminating all hate or racism. Just "white supremacy". White supremacy is rampant among whites. From looking at the sites he provided I can also see that non-white (they're not black but we're white) supremacy is rampant as well. These sites widen the rift between the "races" instead of concentrating on understand and eleminating all forms of racism. They don't seem to be a benifit to anyone. Creating suspicion and paranoia are of no help to anyone. In a few years I will become a teacher. I refuse to even consider throwing any child out of my classroom based on the color of their skin. Rather I'll try to instill values of respect and individuality (among others) in them. This is what I (a white person) will do to try to eleminate not only white supremacy but all forms of racism. Or is this not acceptable to you and those who create and post the web sites you advertise. I'm sorry non-white person if you think I am not good enough to teach your children simply because I am "white" (see I saved you the trouble of asking me). I am working for the summer in a dry cleaning plant. I need the money for college and it is enough with my loans but I see people, both white and non-white, who make less than minimum wage (not because of a stingy owner but because the business would fail if wages were raised). I see their empty eyes as they come into work and do their jobs so they can take their minimal paychecks home to try and feed their families and pay the bills. I hear so many of them telling me how much they wish they would have chosen to go to college and how much they hate their jobs. Is this what you would prefer for children? Call me a racist. Call me uneducated in the ways of the world. Call me what you will. But when I see somone who suggests denying a child an education for any reason (coughbushcough) I can't keep quiet. What happens when the white teachers refuse to teach the non-whites and there are no non-white teachers to teach them?

What does a White person say and/or do to counter White Supremacy(Racism)?

I am a white person, who has countered racism in many ways. The way that I find most "win-win" is to be active in groups that help raise awareness to issues of inequality. Words are words, I don't have much faith in them. Words as we have clearly seen throughout your whole list of responses sound, to me, like people afraid to lose their status of higher paying jobs, access to good education, and seem like riteous people sitting on the coat tails of their privledged ancestors and then disguise their good fortune as hard work... there are a few times I even gasped while reading some of these comments, claiming they're not racist yet say they can't help that their DNA is so supremely golden... or using the common-reverse discrimination strategy- by claiming to be wounded that one blackey one time gave them a hard time - boo hoo - and now all of the blackeys are are bad.. and racism is "their" fault... a problem that "they" need to get over..

Your question is valid, not inflamatory, and it's left open for interpretation- fair enough- it does not need to be dissected. The reason -some- people have a "hard" time answering this question is because they fear the answer, because it will ask them to find compassion within, and that hurts the ego, that hurts every lie that we've been taught to think that's become apart of us.. but, I'd like to tell them, not a permanant part- because we have choice over our own thoughts and actions. Humanity can be greater only when we are all on the same level. For some of you that may be in your mind that you may need to humble yourself and beging inviting /sharing/ listening more. For others it may be a matter of celebrating diversity by attending cultural events that are not from your own culture.

As a culture we need to acknowledge that these inequalities, go back long before our time, which the repercussions are seen and felt in our time.. and this is the answer to the question "why can't we all just get along?" It's been a long time in the making, but it's long past due for racism's breaking. The poor have been silenced and left uncompensated. We are the ones to evolve it, not blindly support a corrupt system whose structure is set up to only let a few people of color rise to the top, a few women rise to the top, a few gays rise to the top- only to make it "look good" while, the obvious truth, where ever you look, the majority of the TOP jobs belong to the white male.

Lastly, and more tangibly, support local business, invest in people not corporations, keep money flowing locally and spread these ideals, because it's one way we can encourage economic growth and support each other, and through this gain a "real "sense of pride. We need to join groups to participate in our community, we need to vote for a president who cares about worker's rights, we need to respect other people's cultures enough to not declare war on them because the are "differences". Let it be, let it be- MAKE IT BE!
