Transcendental Sonnet #869:
Wake Me When the Election is Over
Wake me when the election is over
Please but only wake me if Bush loses
I would just like to go undercover
Wait it out until the country chooses
And immerse myself in my poetry
The game of politics is not for me
And please spare me those ads on the telly
The defamation and the dumbing-down
They must think our brains have turned to jelly
The president is an un-funny clown
In this the summer of our discontent
While we wait for the other shoe to drop
We hope and pray for the day when we stop
The Republicans (if they will relent)
