In light of the recent discussion of the fate of the poetry board, I have written the following piece. It doesnt pertain to the result of the discussion now, as that has been sorted out at the highest level, but I would still like to be able to put this on the board for perusal.

-J-

Here in our beloved forum, is a situation dire
There are some of those amongst us, who want the poets to retire
They say we have no place here, because here rules neuroscience
But poetry was here from the beginning, in a celebration of an hemispherical alliance
There is approx 0.003% of our population, with this thought of discontent
And the creator of this forum, feels his time is now being misspent
Should such a small percentage have such a sway in a democracy ?
Can a few narrow minds spoil it for everyone else who embraces poetic creativity
We are the victims of our own success, our own popularity
More and more people arrive at this site, but I cant see the tragedy

I dont know about you others, but when I recommend this place I usually like to gloat
I say here is allowed the freedom of thought and science isnt forced down your throat
Philosophy and the pursuit of the truth, also here have a place to reside
Not tucked away in a hard-to-find-place, but in harmony side-by-side
Here is found talk of neural paths, patterns and brain activity
Here is found succur and solace through poetic therapy
But this nirvana of cerebral pursuits will never be the same again
Because a select few still insist on recognizing only ½ of the human brain

The original formula for this forum was correct, it's popularity confirms the choice
Should it all be cleft in twain, for the sake of an unknowns voice ?
It's not that the unknown's voice is wrong in what "it" is trying to say
But if it promotes segregation and not unity, then maybe "it" should find another way
The creator should embrace this forums success and immense popularity
And say with pride it became so, with both science and poetry
Scientists use their left side as they continue along with with their scientific plight
But creative thoughts of a poets dream, comes from what's on the right.

Well, John, as you can easily imagine, this is my new favorite poem!

Thank you with all my heart for this, and for your most helpful and indeed pivotal role in saving the art of poetry on Mind-Brain.com.

We never know who our true friends are until a crisis, it seems. Out of this extraordinarily painful crisis, I learned that some were better friends than I thought and some were worse; you, dear John, are definitely of the former. I will never forget what you have done, nor will I ever forget what others have done.

I remember everything.

Our solidarity is unbreakable. I have learned a few things from this experience, and one of them is that you are my true friend, as well as a true friend to the art of poetry.

You are also, as this poem proves, an outstanding and accomplished poet yourself.

I am profoundly in your debt. You have my respect and loyalty always.

I am going to pin this poem to the top of the poetry board. There are some who really need to see this.

Namaste

Hey Hey
Please can you tell me what the high level discussion decided. Are we safe? Mind-brain would be inferior without this forum ..... and I would be sad.

There has been no occasion that I have not consulted my inspiring Poetry Forum after delving into the means and ends of science.

Hey Hey

All is well, Hey Hey.

Not only are we safe, but things will be getting even better hereabouts very shortly, especially for poetry. Monday should see the beginnings of real enhancement of the role and position of poetry upon these pages.

Thank you for caring! You encourage me!

Dona nobis pacem.

Hey Hey

I really enjoy this piece a lot!

Maybe people feel they have to go online and search then ridicule poetry sites where it's member has finally found thier "HOME', thier place in life.

To embrace something on a non-conformic level, only serves to validate that person's narrow-mindedness.

It is said we only use 1/10 of our brains compacity and capabilities, and this is not only due to the acceptance that that is all we need to use, because if it were, then why do we, (not excluding poets) busts their behinds to evolve our thought abilities and to expand ourselves.

Makes one think how much of these narrow-minded persona's use of their brains compacity. Lol

If one poetry forum closes, or poets retire solely on one's needless and careless virtues (or lack thereof), then take heart, another poetry site such as this WILL pop-up again and again, for the word of KINDNESS and mutual CONSIDERATION and RESPECT is beginning to rise again.

The love and respect for the poets here, is not a mere fad nor is it to be taken lightly.
Poetry is a universal language, the same in every regard as Music, and has been around in our hearts since the beginning of time. It will never fade!

So I praise you, on the upmost highest of regards for this enlightened, and, insightful write.

This is well beyond deserving of pinning....

Very well stated, and the point... very well taken. At least from my perspective.

It is said we only use 1/10 of our brains compacity...

Perhaps science shouldn't intrude in the poetry world, but being that this is Mind-Brain.com, I couldn't resist setting the record straight on this bit of incorrect folklore.

Nature is not inefficient, and would never provide large, heavy, and energy consuming human brains if they weren't generally used at full capacity. When people are thinking hard their brains are generating about 100 watts of heat.

I know it's a nice romantic view to think that all a person has to do is try harder and he can double or even dectuple his mental results, but that's not the case. Like with physical activity, daily mental exercise and self-discipline is the way to a stronger mind.

Consciousness expansion can also play a role in achieving up to our capacity. In one study with neurotics, the average IQ increase was 10 points on the Weschler scale after just one consciousness expansion session. This is because, in my view, consciousness expansion lets us blast through the clutter of life and see what's really important.

So what are you saying, Rick? We actually use 1half of our brains and not 1/10th?

I was lost by this. Sorry, I'm slow that way.
But I do agree with you on many facets.
For I am just a mere poet, and not a nuerosurgeon, or doctor, or teacher. Just a high-school drop-out, emotionally deficit, with compounded mental problems and a GREAT BIG HEART toward the greater population who will see fit to have me.

And I still love this write.

Hey Hey
Anyway, who say that "mind" is in the brain? Could be a good arguement that "mind" is caused/as a result of the brain, but in it, well really, come on! Did I answer the wrong question? Am I on the wrong board? Am I just bored? Soap.
Rick
We actually use all our brains, when we are fully awake and engaged. There is no reserve capacity. We can increase our ability with practice.
Hey Hey
Who says? I know you, but who else?
Rick
Every now and then Scientific American does a thing on incorrect folklore. That's one of them.

Keep practicing and you'll be truly dangerous very soon.
Hey Hey
I just cut my finger on my eraser - Hey - I'm dangerous!!!

Hey, the moderator just unpinned this topic. I guess our frivolity and flippantry has doomed this one to descend with the rest of the bottom-feeders.
Hey Hey
Serves us right! No more fun. Get on with the poems!

I realize this post is almost two years old, but I couldn't resist a reply.

It is poetry that brought me to this site more than two years ago. It is poetry that calls me back now and then. As online poetry goes, this site is far above the norm and without it, I would likely be denied the inspiration, pleasure and privilege of absorbing some of the magnificent creations posted here by the likes of J, Hey Hey, Rick and of course, "Sir Stevie" (No offense to the other poets replying to this topic, I'm unfamiliar with their work however, I applaud their replies here).

While browsing the poetry boards curiosity led me to many other topics at Brainmeta. I have spent countless hours all over this site, and dare I say, I'm a bit more knowledgeable as a result. Perhaps I'm not the target audience the infamous .003% was hoping for, but it is my hope that they would find consolation in my broadened perspective anyway.

The irony is this: I was hip deep in brain wave frequencies and cognitive science and psychology when a search I ran brought this post up.

So, If the 'powers that be' have any doubts about the decision to keep poetry alive at Brainmeta, my humble opinion is...

"Hell Yes! You did the right thing, and a sincere Thank You".

Peace,
JoC
Hey Hey
Good on you JoC !
+Steven Curtis Lance
That's so sweet of you, JoC! Thank you with all my heart. I was so surprised and gratified to find this; I was amazed, actually. I am always amazed that anyone cares anything about me at all, to be honest. Your designation of me as "Sir Stevie" is, I think, the greatest honor I have yet received in a very strange and rather too-long lifetime, and gives me a very big, much appreciated, and much needed smile.

Since the beginning of this post, we have undergone a name change, but the poetry board is still here, thank God. I have brought out many books in that time, and written hundreds of poems; I hope someone enjoys them. I do feel at home here; all I have to do is visit some other poetry site to see how out of place I am there or anywhere else, and how I belong here.

Thank you so much for caring! You make it all endurable, and help to make this place the home it is and has always been for me and for others.

Respect and solidarity,

+Stevie

Thanks, Hey Hey!

Sir Stevie,
That's just it, don't you see? That's the thing that puts this site above the rest. It's the home the members such as yourself made here that makes this place honest. Free from gimmicks and uncluttered with distractions: Honest makes it home.

Peace,
JoC
