Transcendental Sonnet #811:
Something Stronger
After uncertain sonnets and false starts
I want to write something to stop our tears
I want to write something to lift our hearts
To wrestle to the ground those scary fears
Which lurk in the shadows waiting for doubt
Those nightmare themes we never speak about
For they are only ghosts and we are real
The shadows should not get the best of us
They take away our joy and try to steal
Our very lives to get the rest of us
But we have something stronger than the night
And we have something stronger than the pain
I know just what can make us smile again
The love which burns within us pure and bright

I will admit, Steve, there is one thing I admire about you. You write, and write, and write. And then write again. And so on into infinity.

I love you too, my beautiful ballerina, my beautiful butterfly bride.
I am so proud of you.
How did I ever get such a great girl?
C'est miracle!

With reference to the title, "Something Stronger," here's a stupid joke I just made up which makes the point another way:
Guy goes into a bar he's never gone to before and the bartender says, "what'll you have?"
The guy says, "Irish on the rocks."
Bartender says, "this is a beer joint; just beer," and he asks him again, "what'll you have?"
Guy says, "something stronger!"
Bartender says, "you married?"
Guy says, "yeah."
Bartender says, "you're already Irish on the rocks; if you want 'something stronger' go home to your wife and tell her you love her and you need her right now, because you're a mess."
(This is why I'm not a comedian. *sigh* I had to settle for being a poet... Note to the young: There is nothing harder to write than comedy.)
