Thirteen (for Teddy)

Tricked by Harry Potter into reading
By mothers and others into speeding
Overscheduled into society
Stuffed into a bourgeois satiety
And feeling in general like a pawn
In a game where rules are narrowly drawn
You cannot win back what adults attack
In their madness of insecurity

From Bush on down it is nothing but lies
From the outside looking in I can see
Wal-Mart McDonald's with supersize fries
Teddy I know it sucks to be thirteen
Come visit me here in the in-between
Here in the shadows of what-might-have-been
