Full Version: Theorizing Mind Expansion(The Mechanics of)
BrainMeta.com Forum > Enhancing Consciousness and Cognition > Expanding Consciousness

Cognitively, consciousness acts as a magnet. If consciousness is the magnet, then the memory(or personal unconscious)is what is being attracted by the magnetic.(Think of the memoWhat I am saying here is the theory of asociation.(N.B.This information from the memory is filtering the info from the memory,or more precisely, the filter DISCRIMINATES what is related to the object and what is not.)

When we perceive an object, that object is in consciusness-a content of consciousness, and this oject attracts, from the memory, any memory that is associated with that object. This all happens subconsciously, without our awareness.Example-we see a chair, then this attract from the memory anything to do with the chair-it is made of wood,it is brown,it has four legs,a back(to lean on),its uses(to sit on).(N.B.think of the memory like a bag, which is full of our memories-our whole lie in fact,on "record",as so to speak-and this "bag"/memory is tight at the top-like a bottleneck-where the "discriminating filter" is-and all the info from the memory passes through this filter.)

Now,all this information is passed to the subject, and the subject KNOWS what the chair is because the memory has told him so-the information related to the chair is superimposed or PROJECTED onto the chair, this information perceived subconsciously,or rather,is in the sub-conscious of the subject letting him know aht there is to know WHAT a chair IS.

Now,when tripping, this info from the memory does something drastic. It makes conscious the subjects THOUGHT or OPINION of the chair, and in fact,it is THIS that acts like a magnet. We said it was consciousness, but consciousness-perception of the material world,is in fact an UNCONSCIOUS projection of the -subcoonscious-thoughts and opinions of the subject-"reflecting" the psychological state of the subject. If the subject feels good, then his surroundings are pleasing to him-the hallucinations when tripping are good-but when the subect is feeling down, the opposite happens. The hallucinations are in fact the subjects "threshold of consciousness" being moved so that MORE info from the memory becomes CONSCIOUS-instead of subconscious, forming our subconscious thoughts/opinions of an object, this excess info becoming conscious of the subconscious info THROUGH the HALLUCINATIONS.)

Now,th point I want to make is,these memories that are "pulled out of the "bag"/memory,must eventually reach an end, where the associations are exhausted.(Also, what pattern do these memories follow?Fractal form-in a chaotic fasion-but eventually reaching a single "LOWEST DENOMINATOR",where there are no more memories to "pull out",even though they are following a chaotic pattern, eventually there wil be no memories left.Does this mean that the memory is empty(emptied?))What happens then?If there are no more memories to pull out, what comes next?In other words,by association, what else is related to the "LOWEST DENOMINATOR" mentioned above?)If there are no more memories in the memory "bag" to associate with, what comes next.......some sort of collective memory,or unconscious?)

I must mention what made/inspired me to think of this? Many thimes I have tripped, and seen things that I have no PRIOR KNOWLEDGE OF.Example-dragons,unicorns,mythological stuff-in other words,it was as though I had reached a point where the "memories" no longer came from my OWN personal memory. So,wher did they come from?It did seem as though I had "tapped in" to someone else's memory.....a collective memory perhaps,a place where the so-called memories don't just have a PERSONAL MEANING(to me),but a COLLECTIVE MEANING.In other words,I may have a certain personal phobia, but the object of my phobia does't scare someone else. But,when I reached this "collective level" of memory, then I seemed to find "collective phobias",like dragons for example. But because I was aware/CONSCIOUS of this collective PROJECTION,it didn't have any scary qualities, because I was aware of the (COLLECTIVE)CAUSE of (PERSONAL)EFFECT OF PERSONAL FEARS-IN SYBOLIC OR MYTHOLOGICAL FORM.It is like a pyramid shape-first,100 memories, then(above that),99 memories,98,97,96 and so on,until we reach the "TOP" of the pyramid, this top being the UNIVERSAL and NON_PERSONAL "memory".Is this what Jung called the Archetype?

Finally, when I reach the above state of mind,it is when I have "true" mind expansion.Because I have reached the Universal mind/memory,I seem to have knowledge of which I have NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE.

Can anyone elaborate on what I have said,or add their own thoughts?I am looking for a single reliable model and theory of Mind Expansion-its mechanics.Has anyone else got any similar theories/views?

Dear RE

I think I posted something here on Affinity which has much to do with why your 'associations' take place. I know when things fit in a memory tape they are more easily recalled too.

You might look into mnemonics and a technique called the Ars Memoria too.

I have only glanced over your post, robert, but I will take a good look after(I have a thought I want to write down now before I forget it!)

First,(to remind me)the Unus Mundus, and second, the thing you call affinity-when you remember something, there are two "halves" to the memory,i.e.what you have in your subconscious mind, and the actual memory(in the "bag" I have mentioned-memory bag)that is recalled. What I mean is,in ordere for you to recall a memory, you first have to know what it is you are recalling. So,technically, you have already remembered the memory,it is just that it hasn't been given any form, which is given by the memory bag.You know when something is on the tip of your tongue and you just can't remember it?Well, that is because you have one half in your subconscious....for example, you can PICTURE someone's face, but you just can recall their name. The name is what comes from the memory bag,to give your memory form, which you can say/speak.So,memories do in fact have two halves, and when they come together, they sort of cancel each other out-like yin and yang-and this gives rise to REALITY,or in this case, the memory.

The reason I say "REALITY" above,is because-reality is neutral(later)-when you perceive reality,or rather,BEFORE you become CONSCIOUS of reality,an unconscious process takes place.Consciousness can be split into two halves, perception and MEANING.(When I say 2 halves,I have just simplified it.When you "perceive" reality,it isn't really perceived until it has MEANING "superimposed" onto it.I mean, how can you perceive something if it has no meaning to you....it would be "featureless",or "meaningless-in other words,UNCONSCIOUS.Think about this. Before you speak, you have to think what you want to say, yes?Well, the same goes for perception. When you look at something, you first have to think of what it is you want to put your ATTENTION on.You are telling your body what to do,and the object of perception is one of the parameters of the instructions of telling your body what to do-like a computer. This is the first half-reality has not yet become conscious. After this-the second half-MEANING has to be projected outwards in accordance with your pre-conscious thought-or instruction of what you want your body to do.Now,where does this meaning come from, your own personal memory,or a collective one.(Just out of interest,a brain teaser. You have to think of what you want to say before you have said it-that is just common sense.Well,if we follow this logic,it is fair to say that we have to think of something before we look at it.Well, what if we look at an object that is behind our head?Wouldn't it be logical to say that we thought of the object first-and don't forget, this object is out of sight.SSSoooooo,is that some sort of precognition?Hmmmm.....)

Back to the Unus Mundus. This is a Jungian term, which I think means one world. It becomes significant here because,if we "boil our perceptions down",then we get the "lowest denominator" of the MEANING of our perception of the world, and would be the WORLD itself. So,is perception of the world, and the (actual)world ONE AND THE SAME THING?(Briefly,I have had several experiences of this, when my thoughts, perceptions, and what seemed to be the "real" world were all ONE AND THE SAME THING.I felt as though I could "predict" what was going to happen next-in my surroundings-as though my thoughts and perceptions were SYNCHRONISED,or,as if I was THINKING(UP)THE OUTSIDE WORLD.

**No time left.Be back later**Thankyou for your reply Robert the Bruce.(Are you scottish,by the way?I am from North Wales.)

Dear RE

First of all - I consider myself a citizen of Earth and though Canada was my birthplace and present home as well - I have spent most of my adult life south of the Border where my ancestors (Like your Prince Madoc) have been for a very long time and probably before Columbus.

Unus Mundus or the 'collective unconscious' and the Animus Mundi that caused me to have personalized plates ANIMUND when I lived in Vegas is known to me. Some of what you describe about memory would fit with the electrodes attached to parts of the brain by Wilder Penfield and yet I suspect you know their are times you have found you are saying things you have never heard or read.

I call it 'tapping-in'. I deal with the 'creative' source that occurs in much of what I do - in my recently finished book Integrating - Soul & Science that Shawn once said he was going to do something for (but I suspect he has thought better - for his career). I believe I posted something from that book on this subject here already. It goes beyond just tapping-in when one focuses INTENT to achieve what Bucky Fuller calls 'creative realization'.
