Transcendental Sonnet #653:
And So Good Night
O bitter night! O mocking morn!
A curse that I was ever born
What curiosity is satisfied
Is hardly worth the cruelty and fear
Of this my having lived my having died
Now I would sleep I would escape from here
I wanted to do good once to do well
Impossible! Sadistic mockery!
Spun to death on an insane carousel
Now there is almost nothing left of me
I will finish my book and then die
Let it all go now and so good night
No one will care and neither will I
But know I went struggling... toward the light
