Transcendental Sonnet #617:
Silke Lance

That one so brutalized could be so kind
Through hell itself sweet as you ever were
Has touched my heart has spoken to my mind

Forged in the crucible of suffering
You have emerged more beautiful more pure
As to the bitterness of life you bring
Your shining love your selfless empathy

And you have chosen by pure love to be
My best friend the companion of my life
The best there is the best I ever knew

To think that this rare creature is my wife
Is to weep gratefully thank God thank you
No words exist to tell you how I feel
To find the woman of my dreams is real
