Transcendental Sonnet #611:
Grandpa No Relation

Chief Al W. Graham, MCAS Yuma

I remember him as being rather soft
Strong but emotional and vulnerable
He was cuddly but he could lift me aloft
To soar safely in the very best of hands

I used to think to myself "he understands
Me" whereas all others found inscrutable
My esoteric and enigmatic ways
He was tender with me and that meant a lot

I carry his memory all of my days

In that crucified childhood the only spot
Of joy I ever had the only good one
Out of all of them he loved me he was my
Grandpa no relation wish I were his son

Why the hell does someone like that have to die?

Great sonnet! I am sorry he had to die, but it is wonderful that you were able to experience his love and have it remain in your heart forever. I am sure your "Grandpa" would be very pleased to know how special he was to you!

Love,
Dara
