Not a Sonnet But a Nonet:
Choose Booze
If I had to choose
Between booze and the blues
I would choose the booze
I confess
Because I have the blues
Choose
(May God bless)
Booze
(And no less)

I'm not sure whether laughter would be appropriate. I feel like that sometimes, too, but, alas! I am under the legal drinking age! *grumblegrumble* I like it. An honest reflection of the human mind: numbness over pain. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it....Hmmm....

I know what you mean, Megan, and you're not reading too much into it.
Tis but the most wee nubbin of a poem, as far as that goes; it began life as a joke, as a funny note in an email to Silke, tossed off lightly. I really don't know why I elevated it to canonical status like this! Must've been drunk, eh?
But everything means something in any of my poems, even this one. For example:
(And no less)
also means:
And KNOW LESS;
the river of forgetfulness, oblivion.
This morning I wanted to rewrite this thing into something better, but I ultimately decided to just let it stand as a little joke, a bagatelle, a trifle, and try to write something new and substantive instead of going back to it.
Oddly enough, some who love me have been awfully kind about this little thing. It seems like it has "legs." So I'd best leave it alone.
Thanks so much for reading me so closely, and so faithfully. I truly and sincerely appreciate your interest in--and thereby your support of--my poetry. I promise to do my best! I would like to really amount to something in the time I have left. I want my beautiful wife and best friend, Dr. Lance, to be proud of me (she says she already is, but I want to always give my best, for her and the world both).
Unbreakable solidarity, my dear fellow poet!
