I've wondered many times
if there is a recipe for love?
Is there a book upon the shelf
that gives the ingredients?
A dash of this, a spoon of that,
to make everything just right.
Or is the secret in his kiss,
when he holds me every night?

Must I measure very carefully,
to be sure it turns our right?
Is there a time to mix it well,
to be a chef of love?
Want you tell me friend?
Please don't keep it to yourself!
Or is the secret measure,
not in a book upon the shelf?

Perhaps the secret is his smile,
or the way he looks at me.
Maybe it is in the words,
he speaks so tenderly.
It could be the simplest thing,
like the way he makes me smile.
Or maybe it is just the way,
his touches all beguile.

What is the secret recipe
to this magic thing called love?
Is it written somewhere?
Will you share it with a friend?
Or, Is it just a mystery
to which no one holds the key?
If you have the directions,
don't hold them back from me.

Perhaps we hold the secret,
the two of us together.
And only we can follow,
the recipe to make it better.
Mix in well love and devotion,
stir in a healthy spoon of trust,
Add a heaping cup of passion,
measure in desire, is a must.

I think that's just the beginning,
in the secret recipe of love.
It takes time and patience,
for a recipe to turn out right.
The work and diligence you put in,
is the measure you'll receive.
Add generously Faith, Hope & Love,
and never practice to deceive.

In this begins the secret,
for the recipe of love.
The two of us together
hold the secret key.
It's up to us to master it,
to make it turn out right.
Then don't forget to ask directions,
as we say our prayer each night

Hey, nice recipe, Misty!

I enjoyed this poem; it is informed by kindness, an ingredient in short supply these days and not to be found in the shops.

I always enjoy your work, and this poem especially.

Thanks so much for sharing it with us here. Many could learn much, by following your recipe!

I am in unbreakable solidarity with you, my fellow poet, always.
