hi, this is my first post but ive been reading a lot of whats said in the topics and it has been really interesting, I was wondering if anyone had any input on the evolution of consciousness with the evolution of technology, mainly computing power and bioengineering. Am I right to think that the future will be characterized by emergence of machine consciousness and if so, how soon?

I've seen a prediction of the singularity being a reality in 2030!

where did you see that?
i hope humans do not become obsolete in the future, it paints for me a somewhat sad picture, also, does more computer power correlate with singularity or consciousness? The future is so uncertain...

I think it was Ray Kurzweil, in a book about the Matrix.

when we understand what's happening in the human brain, then we will probably be in a position to make machines conscious like humans, unless it turns out that the sheer complexity of the human brain processes associated with human consciousness prohibits such a technological mimicking.... but there's no reason to expect, a priori, that this will be the case.

and if it does occur that we can induce true consciousness in synthetic brains, the universe will have achieved a radically different class of life which will likely open the doors for immense evolution of mind

so its modeling the human brain and mind combined with advances in technology, aprogression of understandings..
has anyone read Self-Aware Universe by Amit Goswami? I liked it a lot and am still in the process of reading it, any thoughts on it?
