KIND OF LOVE

Once upon a time, I loved a man

Not a Happy-Ever-After kind of love
Not a cannot-live-without-you kind of love
Not a say-you'll-never-leave-me kind of love
Not a let's-get-married-and-have-kids kind of love

We'd been through that with other people

This was a laughing, light-hearted kind of love
A picnic-in-a-rowboat-on-the-river kind of love
A sledging-in-the-moonlight-in-the-park kind of love
a Canasta-andChianti-by-candlelight kind of love
A walk-on-the-moors-romp-in-the-heather kind of love

I've known the Grand Passion, ,lived with men, been married
Been so much in love I couldn't think or walk or talk straight
Been so much in love I've cleaned the house, done the laundry
And enjoyed it

It wasn't like that with this man, whom once I loved
It was long ago, far away and we were young
But through the life and lovers years have brought me
I remember him
For the joyousness, the kindness and the sweetness
It was that kind of love.

Thank you for your welcome.
I'm happy that you liked this poem. It won the West Australian Writers Poetry Award a couple of years ago. And I look forward to sharing more of my "stuff" with you in the future.

Please do! This is very nice work! I especially like the use of hyphens to link words. Hee hee. Wonderful structure as well as content!

~Best~
