Transcendental Sonnet #544:
The Wheel

Sunrise sunset light and darkness following
Ever always ever-turning wheel of time
Sun and shadow cycle day and night to bring
I observe it all and it becomes the rhyme
Inner rhythm secret meaning of my days
Hidden in me deep part of my heart always
Saved and cherished there and kept there safe for you

I see the sun go up and down mark the moon
Along her lonely journey of loss and gain
Watching the wheel turn I can discern the true
How relative time is now distant now soon
How objective life is the pleasure the pain
Tragedy comedy agony ecstasy
All on the wheel... returning and turning again

Beautiful and heartfelt. Brimming with anguish and hope. Would that everyone had such a gift of expression.

Megan, I really must thank you for replying to these sonnets of mine so faithfully and kindly; many I know a lot better bloody well ignore me, functionally...

Ah well, never mind them. I'm just glad you and Silkchen MausiMuttilein Maus of mine read 'em, in any case. I know I don't reply to poems as I ought to and would like. I spend so much of my time busy with existential despair, you know; it's rather draining, certainly preoccupying and distracting!

Thanks for your kind words about my expression; it helps to be haunted, I find. If you live through hell, you usually write better out the other side. In my case, however, it's too early to tell, since I haven't yet come out the other side.

But I do thank and praise God for what he has given me: Silke and poetry. I reckon I'm the richest man I know, and yet I have less money than most. Silke and poetry are quite enough for me. These two, and kind fellow poets like you, who read my work and care.

Unbreakable solidarity!
