As I tramp into the lonely woods,
Trees sway, and welcome me.
The security checkpoint comes into view,
the brambles and rosebushes frisk me.
A white scratch appears on my arm.

As I venture further into the forest,
I hear a babbling brook telling its stories.
Dandelions bring color to the solemn ground,
And bring color to this solemn ground.
Trees are all around me,
a massive army, waiting to move.,
The fire of men has visited the forest,
And destroyed it like fire burning oil soaked wood.
The burn marks are clearly visible.
The flesh of the trees are scarred,
Like a burnt body that never healed.

It has taken years for the new trees to come out of the ashes,
And now they are back, and they are numerous.
They have grown again like weeds in an unattended garden.
I sit down and let the comforting scent fill my lungs,
And all my troubles disappear.
