Why War?
Living life minute by minute.
Not knowing if you will ever see tommorow.
Recoiling in horror and fright,
hoping that the sirens will stop,
and that no blood was spilled.
Walking back from school,
finding your home up in flames.
You throw down your bags and run inside.
But all you find are ashes.
Ashes that once hugged you,
and held you close.
Ashes that told you,
everything is all right,
nothing will happen to you.
But nothing is all right.
Your world has been jolted upside down.
Your mind spins, your heart thumps.
You feel deserted, you have no idea what to do.
This is War.
Why do we need it?

This is a speaking piece. The visuals are well conceived, and the message easily obtained. Thank you for sharing this piece. The voices of the people always have an impact somewhere.

Excellent, powerful, and altogether admirable in its opposition to the filthy curse of war, in the cynical death-grip of which we find ourselves held victimized today.
Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with the poets.
Have you heard how Laura Bush invites writers to the White House each year, ostensibly in the name of literacy? Well, she learned the hard way not to ever invite poets again; last year the poets who had been invited worried her so much before they appeared--what with the potential embarrassment to the junta of their perhaps saying something in their poetry against war--that they were swiftly and without explanation uninvited, and no poets have been invited since. Other sorts of writers appeared there this year, but no poets, nor will be poets be invited again. Poets are not welcome in the Bush White House. Literacy can be subversive, it appears.
Poetry is powerful, and we poets are powerfully threatening to narrowness and stupidity.
I thank God that I am a subversive, and I defy the narrow and the stupid to try and silence me. My fist in their face, and long live the free word.
DOWN WITH THE CRIMINAL JUNTA! IF YOU HAVE A VOTE, USE IT FOR THE SAKE OF HUMANKIND, BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE FOREVER.
