Prometheus
Just found this site earlier today before classes and thought I would drop in and introduce myself. I am a 26 year old student finishing my first half of pre-pharmacy requirements. I have always been very interested in how the brain works and functions, and think this site is perfect for me. My ideal choices in life on things to do for a living would be neurobiology of some sort. When I decided to become a pharmacist last year, and learned of fellowships, I decided the best course for me would to aim for a career in Neuropharmaceutical research.

A bit about myself:

My name is Daniel, I am a transhumanist with relatively healthy degree of optimism. I only very recently started this whole "school" thing about a year ago. My life in high school was unremarkable- 2.2 G.P.A or so, and lots of, uh, experimentations with recreational pharmaceuticals, though I never dreamed I would become a pharmacist myself, LOL. Oh how times have changed.

About two years ago I quit smoking (ciggaretes, quite smoking or doing anything illegal more than 5 years ago, only a high school thing I assure you all), and once I quit that I decided to better myself, I started lifting weights and running. Did bodybuilding for a bit, and then powerlifting, and now I just lift weights, do plyometric work, run and basically work out for health reasons rather than athletic. (train for martial arts mostly, more explosive lifts, etc)

A year ago I decided to go to school for Physical Therapy, but halfway through the semester I decided I might as well go an extra year or two and get a job that pays much more- Pharmacy. After working in a Pharmacy and realizing that I could go from PharmD to Research with a saftey-net of 75G's to fall back on, I decided to follow my dream of research. Neuropharmaceutical research, specifically Nootropics.

I think the future is more in Mind-machine interfaces, but again I feel that is quite some time in the future, and a good stepping stone for us that will carry on is pharmeceuticals. I want to help pave the way to the future, and hopefully enhance my own memory as well.

It is hard for this old stoner, I have to climb many walls, many of which were caused by my incompetance as a teenager, killing drugs, hindering neurological development, and just not caring. With what I have learned in the last two years or so about neurological development, I think that I stand a chance, even at my age I can change the way I think, enchancing myself until drugs can help me with it. At least until memory storage devices that implant to your nervous system come about. wink.gif

Oh, I ordered some L-Arginine-Ornithine, Vinpocetine, and some Choline Cocktail to experiment with, perhaps it will assist me in my endevors, any thoughts?

Oh, I am also Epimetheus on several other boards, but chose to pick Prometheus on this one, since I hope to change my "hindsight" into "foresight". A bit more optimism I suppose.

and "killing drugs" should read "killing brain cells with drugs."

i'd recommend vasopressin, piracetam, hydergine, l-deprenyl, and acetyl-l-carnitine
