Transcendental Sonnet #486:
A Promise is a Promise

"Be thou faithful unto death" so my confirmation verse
In strong and sturdy cadence charged for better or for worse
To swear a life of loyalty through every storm and strife
Then came the promise "and I will give thee a crown of life"

And so it was and so it is and it will always be
A promise is a promise and especially to me

Now I have wandered far and wide and I have strayed away
But I have always come back to my confirmation day

There is another promise which means all the world to me
And it is that made of my love to Silke only she
Will have my heart will have my love all the days of my life
For she alone is faithful unto death my one true wife

And so it was and so it is and it will always be
A promise is a promise and especially to me

Thank you so much, Angiebaby!

And you are in Scotland then? I am a Lance, but I am also part Scots; my grandmother Bonnie Murray was of clan Murray of Atholl. I even have a wool tie of the plaid... but I never wear ties. I would be better off with a kilt; were I to wear that and only that, perhaps, it would suit the climate (both sartorial and social; anything goes hereabouts) rather better here in any case in southern California, to which my English Lances were once lured by the weather, and from which they never returned to the UK, even though their uncle worked for the Crown. So here I am. I wear my baggy skateboard shorts like a kilt, in any case.

I do appreciate your close reading of my sonnets very much.

We are in unbreakable solidarity, my fellow poet, always.
