To deal with the relatively large number of boards on this forum, I've just now incorporated expanding categories. Basically, I did this so that you only need to see the boards in the categories you're interested in, without having to scroll past a bunch of boards that you may not be interested in seeing. This feature requires javascript to be activated on your browser (which is turned on by default) to work properly (otherwise, all categories will be expanded).

A nice feature of these expanding categories is that your settings are persistent, which means that if you leave the site and come back, the forum will remember which categories you had expanded.

If anyone finds this helpful (or annoying), I'd be interested in hearing about it.

I like it One thought though, would it be possible to show all of the subcategories now within a collapsable board?

So it could look like this:

> consciousness
> philosophy & sprirtuality
--> general
----> topic 1
----> topic 2
----> topic 3
--> religion
----> topic 1
----> topic 2
--> perspectives
----> topic 1
----> topic 2
--> etc.
> internet

thanks for the excellent suggestion, Laz. I'll see what I can do. There are also stylistic issues that need to be resolved, too, since right now the forum style seems a bit plain (when all categories are collapsed).

I'm still working on your suggestion, Laz, but am confident it will soon be implemented, time permitting.

I'm curious: Is anyone experiencing any problems with the expanding categories? i.e., with them not expanding when clicked on, or any other problems?

I have received word from a few of you about the expanding categories occasionally not expanding. This appears to be because the page must be fully loaded before clicking on the categories. So, if anyone experiences any problems with expanding categories not expanding, try refreshing the page, wait for the page to fully load, and then click on a category. If you still experience problems, please be sure to let me know about it.
