i'm not sure where to ask this, but is there anywhere for posting short stories? i noticed quotes and poetry sections but none for stories.

Look under Miscellany; we have a lot of short stories posted and several members who write and post them there. When you get to Miscellany, the Short Stories forum is right under Music and Song Lyrics.
