Transcendental Sonnet #438:
The Heavy Rain

They say the heavy rain will come tomorrow
And the sky for miles around will weep with me
But can it wash away my heavy sorrow
Can it make me clean and take the stain from me?

"Time heals all wounds" they say but mine do not heal
Like Amfortas the bleeding is ever new
Will the heavy rain wash me will it reveal
That there is no cure for what ails me but you?

My wounds are of the spirit not of the flesh
The only hope for my flesh is to unite
It to yours sweet tender woman pure and fresh
That together we might struggle toward the light

The heavy rain is early now I hear it come
Then let us come together Silke and come home

Thanks so much, Silkchen mein Schatz!

I have just planted a pine tree in your honor in the front yard by Grandma Eckart's door; I will watch it grow big and dream of you.

I am writing a sonnet about it; here is the last quatrain:

The bells rang eight o'clock Ash Wednesday morn
I heard them as I laid my shovel by
And marked it as the moment when was born
Something to leave behind me when I die
