Hi, I'm new to this whole world of Nootropics and I'm looking for some recommendations on where to start(products, combo's, etc.). I would like to increase alertness, energy, motivation and elevate my mood. Does anyone have any suggestions for me?

The most effective class of drugs for increasing the four aspects of cognition you mention are the amphetamines. However, amphetamines would only serve to achieve your goals for a short period of time -- due to the development of tolerance.
For a more sustainable approach, I would suggest the following dietary supplements:
--> Motivation, Mood and Alertness: 1 gram of L-Tyrosine and 800mg SAMe on an empty stomach. Tyrosine is a precursor to the neuronal synthesis of the neurotransmitters dopamine and norepinephrine (both of which are implicated in alertness and motivation). SAMe is commonly used as an effective over-the-counter antidepressant. SAMe is a methyl donor and underpins the synthesis of neurotransmitters, particularly the catecholamines (which support a positive mood).
--> Mood and Energy: Additional energy usually ensues after eliminating stress, correcting one's diet (i.e. foods rich in antioxidants; increase protein intake) and ensuring adequate rest and sleep. Once the aforementioned areas are addressed, you could supplement with CoQ10 and Acetyl-l-carnitine in order to augment energy levels. Acetyl-l-carnitine has been particularly effective in alleviating mental fatigue in individuals with chronic fatigue syndrome. I currently ingest 2 grams of this substance for the purpose of cognitive enhancement.

SAMe is a waste of money. L-tyrosine is good stuff, though.

My experience with SAMe is very different than this. When I first began taking it, I'd never experienced anything with so powerful an anti-depressant effect. It was truly wonderful. Unfortunately, over a period of some weeks I developed an equally powerful negative side effect of severe stomach pains. Since I've had similar symptoms, but less severe, from other causes, it took me some time to realize that the SAMe was causing this. However, when I stopped taking it, the symptoms abated and disappeared. Apparently this "side effect" is caused by the excess accumulation of serotonin in the digestive tract. As the person from whom I first received SAMe had precisely the same experience (on both ends) I would conclude that my own experience is not that unusual. I tried taking an enteric coated brand and that made little difference.
I say this not to discourage you or anyone to try SAMe, since obviously these side effects don't afflict all users. Nevertheless, given what SAMe can do, and does do, in the short run, for many users, I would suspect that these side-effects, although they don't seem to be often discussed, are a major reason why we don't hear even more than we do about this extraordinary but, alas, flawed, substance.
