Transcendental Sonnet #404:
Survivors' Battle-Cry

Prisoners of our sufferings are we
Held down held back by shadows of the past
Day by day prevented from being free
Held down held back but holding on at last

We endure and we have found each other
Fighting for life through our wounds and our scars
Broken from the loss of son and mother
Fighting for love through our pains to the stars

The difficulty now is to survive
And having come this far it seems we must
Our torturers lose if we stay alive
We have already won each other's trust

So fight to breathe and let your heart beat high
The only way they win is if we die

for Silke my fellow survivor and for all of us

Well put down... This is a beautiful verse, and a reminder that the best revenge is not only just to live, but to live well... For me, living well is living happily, joyfully, and peacefully. You have certainly found yours. ~Suzette

This sonnet helped me so much today, you have no idea. Somehow, I read his poem and it saved me form falling off the edge of sanity.

Thank you...

Love,
Dara
