Transcendental Sonnet #388:
Worth Living For

I have lived quite a while been up been down
Know what is worth living for what is not
I have been too serious been a clown
And what is worth living for's what I've got
A pure and free and perfect love at last
Reveals the future now and heals the past

I can feel the tingling electric joy
Of being loved by someone I respect
Becoming a man becoming her boy
Elected to pride by my bride-elect

Love sets us both free now from all the pain
Of lives lived in the shadows of despair
And now we'll never go back there again
But laugh and live our lives in love's free air
