i can't afford this many
i can't afford any
times are hard and i'm afraid
poison in the lemonade

hubby's up in heaven's skies
and all i hear is hungry cries
i work all day from 9 to 5
they watch themselves and try to survive

by the door when they're asleep
how many can i afford to keep
grab a pillow, contemplate
which child has to meet their fate

times are hard, and hubbys dead
bad thoughts rushing through my head
i can't afford this, i'm afraid
poison in the lemonade
