A friend to all and at all times a friend,
what a basis to live on, to live on till the end.
What can I do , to do all that I can,
how to be not selfish, selfish as is this man.
To the few that lived friendship truly, truly as sure as death,
how with the given oppertunity, oppertunity being as their breath;
loving with each passing take of air, exhaled tenderhearted care.
Seeing beauty all their days, in the lives of those who God intricately made,
effected not by being distruaght;
lost in love for others, their own desires forgot.
Friend to the unfriendly, and a heart to the unheart'ly;
not above anyone else in charity or grace, rather
showing it always, letting its glow light their face.
How I wish to have such love and mercy fill my soul,
that no matter the anguish, grace takes control.
Not ever perfect, nor without mistakes,
friendship to others is a highly risky stake.
What is in your heart will be shown, to
that other, openly known.
At times pain will come, but it will again fade,
and the amount of love and joy recieved can't
be dulled by worth of comparison to precious jades.
Loyalty, selforgetting, and others forgiving;
loving, caring, and truthfully sharing.
Jesus is a savior to all and at all times a friend,
come to Him and recieve of His abundant mercy, to whatever end.

Again, I am not into religion or religious poems, but this touched me deeply.
As Jesus isn't, wasn't, and never will be, or about: Religion. But rather flesh as you and I, with something important to share, and in that I have always respected his presence and the meaning of what it was and is to keep his presence alive.
For that I thank you, for the sharing of this poem.
Blessed Be!

Jameson, I will never forget how my mother used to sing "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."
She took me to church and had me hold one end of the hymnal as she held the other. She taught me to sing. She taught me to sing that song.
My mother lived and died by faith. My mother died singing that song.

A friend to the unfriendly. Now that's love for one's brother. Religious or not, the rules are good!
