hi everyone,
there are a few things I'd like to do to this forum asap:
1) add a recent posts page that lists the actual content of recent posts (like in the old forum) instead of just the topic names.
2) add a navigator bar at the top for navigating to other parts of the site. I'm not sure whether this will be the old javascript-based navigator since some of you complained about this interfering with forum navigation.
3) tidy up the layout of the boards on the main page of the forum.
4) re-enable the chat room.
5) fix up the 'quote' option for posts, and also to tweak the code of this forum so that the quotes made in the old forum show correctly.
6) have 'last edited on ...' information on each post if it was edited.
7) on the main forum page, if a board is posted on the current day, then it should say "Today" on the last post date instead of the numerical date.
I might also remove the 'My Assistant' link since this feature seems rather useless. Please let me know if you have any suggestions.
take care,
Shawn

Hi Shawn,
My assistant looks useful.
Can we keep it a-while [unless it duplicates same features provided alsewhere, or is hogging money or performance]?
I had probs with downloading my PMs [both in and out type].
Back on Gio dial-up now till BB available!! Yoorah!!
Bye for now.

hi Bill,
yes, I'll definitely keep 'my assistant' if people find it useful. I'm not sure what the problem could be with downloading PMs, but will look into it.
take care,
Shawn

ok, I have added the modified javascript navigator bar at the top, have fixed the bad word filter, and have also fixed the display of quotes posted during the time of the old forum.
Now, let me see about viewing the complete contents of recent posts, and about seeing when posts were last edited.

I'm still working on viewing the complete contents of recent posts and about seeing when posts were last edited.
I was wondering, though; does anyone think the font sizes on the main forum page are too small? Also, is anyone having trouble with the links on the javascript navigator at the very top of the page?

Hi Shawn,
RE javascript menu
Wouldn't you know, the one link I tried was ART, PErsonal ART, gall 1 to 3.
This is still not working for me.
I just tried Neuroscience/Brain connectivity, and that doesn't work either.
O don't know if it's my problem or yours, so you need more feedback.
I like your new layout on the index page: it's so smooth and readable.
I'm running on 1024 x768 on a 15" [37.5cm] screen and legibilty is great.
Keep up the good work, and see you soon.
All the best, Bill.

Thank you, Bill, for telling me more about the navigator problem you were having. I checked it out, and you're completely right about the links you tried going to the wrong place. I can't believe that slipped past me. I tried several of the links when I set-up the navigator a couple of days ago, and as luck would have it, I checked all 'working' links that went to the right place, and didn't check any of the 'wrong' links.
Ok, this problem will be fixed in the next couple of mins. Thank you again.
Btw, I'm glad you like the new layout

I had some concerns that some of the fonts sizes might be too small for some people. If they are, I'll need to see about fixing it.
take care,
Shawn

This probably doesn't even need to be said, but....sorry everyone. I've been very, very busy this week with papers and work but will see about continuing with the updates and fixes to the forum this weekend.

hi everyone,
If you go your profile, and then click on 'edit my profile' and scroll to the bottom, you'll notice additional fields. Right now, the new fields are: Nickname or Alias, Quote, and Displayed Name. Filling out these fields allows you to add additional info next to your posts. For example, many of you have asked my about making your displayed name different from your login name (or username). Well now you can, by simply filling out the Displayed Name field. The other fields are pretty self-explanatory. Basically, they're just for adding additional text info underneath your name. For example, for the Quote field, I filled in 'Even the best must be overcome!', and you can see that this is what appears to the left of this post, below my pic.

I have now added a 'Recent Posts' feature, next to the 'Active Topics' link at the top of the page. I'm still in debugging mode though, and it doesn't work completely right, yet. . . but it's getting there, probably sometime tomorrow.

hi everyone,
there are still things I need to fix up with this forum, including some of the posting times on the main forum page (which are not being converted corrected), and also several items on the 'recent posts' page (including links that go to the wrong place). I have been very busy, but will see about making these changes this week.
Also, I have been playing around with the idea of 'sub-boards', as you can see implemented on the 'Poetry' board, and also on some other boards. If you have ideas for sub-boards, feel free to let me know.
take care,
Shawn
