In my paper today , a new book from De Bono called 'Stupid' is offered at £175!!!
Has any body read it?
Is it any good?
He says that thinking needs designing, which may not be a bad idea, but at what cost???
Any comments would be appreciated.

Spontinuity? Do you mean spontaneity?
How can anything alter the core personality of our lives?
This is a great question.
We are taught from early childhood to believe in competition and self worth based on our accomplishments. You go thru school and do the best you can but if you don't do as well as someone who does better than you then the other person is better than you. Most people accept this kind of thinking and it sets a foundation that colors the rest of your interpretations and the way we are able to interact with our world.
One way to interpret design in the process of thinking is to design the mind to work at peak efficiency. If you remove the stresses and beliefs so your self worth is not based on anyone elses opinions and beliefs then maybe you can set your own standards based in something more real than fear and predjudice.
It's a simple idea but then its just an interpretation that was not derived from jumping to a spontaneous conclusion of something being stupid or negative, just because I never gave it any consideration or thought.

oh yes...you can 'design' your thinking.  It takes a little work, but there are different 'technologies' out there to help you do this- neuro-linguistic programming, cognative/behavioral therapy just to name two off the top of my head (look into NLP, the stuff works!)

IMO, it all boils down to creating/enforcing new/different neural pathways (habits)

Dunno if this will change 'personality' though, -although there is a bit that can be done to change temperment (emotional range/norm)   through proper nutrition, exersize, nootropics, sleep etc.

Throw in a regular medative practice so's that you can learn just how your consciousness works for you, and youll wake out of mechanical behavior in no time! tongue.gif
