Transcendental Sonnet #214:
A Promised Kiss

The stars are looking faded here tonight
Cold pinpricks of a dim and distant past
All I can see of them a flickering light
From light-years hence come down to me at last
How strange it is to see them and to know
They might have burned out centuries ago

At times like this I look up at the sky
And wonder if those stars are even there
It is an act of faith as life goes by
To wish on them... it is an act of prayer

O Silke I believe in stars and you
Without this shining in my sky there is
No hope nor meaning nothing which is true
But I believe... my faith a promised kiss
