I have Kazaa Lite and with it, it's easy to view someone else's IP address. Your IP address is your own unique ID on the Net. With it, someone can find out who your ISP is, and in legal situations, your ISP can match up your IP address with your account, and hence, your name, address, phone number, etc.
So far, I have not found any way to see someone's IP address on another popular P2P client, WinMX.
Does anyone think that the recording industry has paid software engineers to develop tools to better identify people online using P2P clients?
In light of the recent court cases involving people who were "caught" sharing music files online, does any think that the number of Kazaa et al. users is declining? I don't think so myself.
