I took Franziska's advice and have implemented templates for this forum.   Currently, the way to change templates is to go to your profile, and you'll see the following if you scroll down about half-way, under the Preferences section:

Current forum time:
Forum Template:   default


Here, you can switch the value of the Forum Template, and then click on Change Profile to effect the Template change.   Right now, there are only two templates, the 'default' one, and one called 'Gold2'.   I'll put together more interesting templates in the coming days, and will also see if there's a way I can set things up so that you can switch templates from the main forum page, without having to go to your profile page.

Please let me know what you think or if you experience any problems changing templates.

thank you, Steve and Greg.    Steve, I'm glad you like it.   I'm in Gold mode now as i write this.  I'm playing around with the templates now, have fixed up the Gold one a bit (which is now called 'Gold' instead of 'Gold2'), and will try to create a couple additional templates tonight.   If anyone has any ideas for possible templates, please let me know.

I'm working on the 'Stars' template right now.

Oh Shawn, I like this Gold; it's better than the Gold2... the only problem with the Gold2 was the white text didn't show up against some backgrounds, but I see this anomaly is fixed in this refinement.  I had gone back to default, but I'm in Gold now and I like it very much.  The default mode reminds me a little too much of VoicesNet... shudder... So I like this very much.  I will look forward to the others, too.  This will be fun.

Say, by the way... nobody seems to be reading my sonnets... if you get a chance, Shawn, could you, and see what you think?  This Burnout fella thinks there are quite enough of them, but it is actually a project of a hundred sonnets...

Can't please everyone, I guess.  Besides, it will take me a hundred just to get good at this business of sonnetry, which I mean to try my best to do.

100 sonnets?!!  That's very ambitious, Steve, and I see you're well on your way to achieving that goal.  :)

Yes, I will definitely take a look at what you've composed recently.  

I'm glad you like the modifications to the gold template.  I fixed the text/background problem you mentioned, and I also changed the color of the mind-brain.com logo.   I'm working on the stars one now, which you can access if you want, though be aware that it's still a work-in-progress, at least for the next 30 or so minutes.

I'd like to implement this template idea for the entire mind-brain.com website.......but I need to think more about how exactly to do this.

I'm glad you like them Ann, and think you'll like the completed star templates even more; there are 2 of them, called 'stars' and 'stars2'.   Basically, the 'stars' template is a minimalistic version of the 'stars2' template.  If you compare both of them, you'll see what I mean.

btw, it took me considerably longer than a half hour to code the star templates, but I think it was worth it.  Let me know what you think.

WOW SHAWN, Stars 2 is GREAT!!! I really love these templates, what a wonderful idea! I have not been on the site as often as I would like as of recently, but I must say I am glad to be back and find some really interesting and fun changes here!

thanks Dara.  The idea for forum templates was Franziska's and so she's the one who deserves much of the credit.  Â I'm glad you like the stars2 template.  I'm still working on being able to switch templates from the main page of the forum, but am finding this to be rather difficult still.  

We've all missed you here.  Don't feel bad about not being here so much.  I've been something of an admin in absentia at times due to other priorities.    

All is well with me, as I hope it is with you too.
